Staff based in EPS Dubai also contribute to the development and delivery of courses to students based in Edinburgh and Malaysia.Detailed DescriptionHeriot-Watt University Dubai is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic Lab Engineer. The potential candidate is required to have a diverse range of responsibilities supporting both academic and research activities across the various departments and programmes within the School. The successful candidate will manage and maintain laboratory equipment, provide technical support to students and faculty, ensure adherence to safety protocols, assist in research activities, and ensures a safe and efficient laboratory environment.Key Duties and Responsibilities * Ensure the proper functioning, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory equipment and instruments. This includes troubleshooting technical issues and coordinating repairs when necessary.
Maintain inventory of supplies and materials needed for experiments and research project. Monitor database of all equipment and supplies and ensure the accuracy of entries and records.
Implement and enforce health and safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for students, faculty, and staff.
Provide technical assistance and guidance to students, researchers, and faculty members in conducting experiments using lab and research equipment.
Organise and conduct training sessions and workshops on laboratory techniques, equipment operation, and safety procedures.
Collaborate with researchers and faculty to design experiments, set up procedures, and develop protocols.
Support academic courses by providing hands-on demonstrations, preparing laboratory exercises, and assisting instructors in delivering practical aspects of the school curriculum.
Supervise and mentor students during laboratory sessions, ensuring adherence to protocols and safety guidelines.
Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency in laboratory operations, suggesting and implementing solutions as needed.
Collaborate with faculty, researchers, and students from diverse disciplines on interdisciplinary projects and initiatives.
Provide pastoral support, recognising when to refer a student for further support. Play a key role in the delivery and support of an excellent student learning experience at HWU.
Develop and maintain strong links with business and industry, external organisations and the education sector.
Work collaboratively with colleagues in Dubai, other campuses, and with external networks both for the exchange of information, to share learning, and to form relationships for future collaboration.
Undertake a proactive role in promoting and marketing the University, ensuring the effective recruitment of students and the achievement of recruitment targets. Play a full role in Open Days and other student recruitment events.
Undertake continuous professional development (CPD) and participate in staff development activities.

BSc and MSc in any of the following fields; Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Energy Engineering or related field.
Experience with lab equipment installation, maintenance and running.
Excellent communication skills.
Commitment to HWU values
1-3 Years experience as a Lab Engineer or relevant industrial experience.
