Job Summary:
We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Steward to join our team in a standalone restaurant. The Steward is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, dishwashing areas, and back-of-house operations. This role is crucial in maintaining a clean and efficient environment, supporting the kitchen and service teams.
Key Responsibilities:
• Dishwashing: Operate dishwashing machines and manually clean dishes, utensils, glassware, pots, and pans, ensuring they are sanitized and ready for use by the kitchen and front-of-house teams.
• Cleaning and Sanitizing: Maintain a clean and organized kitchen by sweeping, mopping floors, and cleaning kitchen surfaces, counters, and equipment in compliance with food safety and sanitation standards.
• Trash Removal: Regularly collect and dispose of kitchen waste, including recyclables and general trash, ensuring proper waste management and cleanliness in back-of-house areas.
• Restocking Supplies: Restock kitchen supplies such as dishware, utensils, and cleaning products as needed, ensuring that the kitchen and service areas have the necessary tools to function efficiently.
• Assisting Kitchen Staff: Assist chefs and kitchen staff with basic food preparation tasks as needed, such as chopping ingredients or fetching supplies.
• Equipment Maintenance: Ensure that dishwashing equipment and cleaning tools are properly maintained, reporting any issues or malfunctions to the kitchen manager.
• Inventory Monitoring: Assist with monitoring and replenishing cleaning supplies and kitchen consumables, ensuring stocks are maintained at appropriate levels.
• Compliance with Health and Safety Standards: Follow all health, hygiene, and safety regulations, ensuring that all cleaning duties meet the restaurant's food safety standards and guidelines.
• Special Cleaning Tasks: Perform deep cleaning duties as needed, including scrubbing kitchen equipment, storage areas, and walk-in refrigerators.
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with the kitchen and front-of-house teams to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the restaurant, particularly during peak hours.
Qualifications and Requirements:
• Experience: Previous experience as a steward, kitchen porter, or dishwasher in a standalone restaurant or similar environment is preferred.
• Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting heavy kitchen equipment, standing for long periods, and working in a fast-paced environment.
• Attention to Detail: A strong focus on cleanliness, organization, and ensuring that all kitchen tools and equipment are properly sanitized.
• Teamwork: Ability to work well within a team, supporting both the kitchen and front-of-house staff to ensure a smooth workflow.
• Time Management: Ability to manage time effectively, particularly during busy service periods, to ensure all cleaning and stocking tasks are completed efficiently.
• Work Ethic: Strong work ethic and the ability to take initiative in keeping the kitchen clean and well-maintained without constant supervision.
• Health and Safety Awareness: Understanding of food safety regulations and sanitation procedures in a restaurant environment.
