As a Junior Legal Counsel at the Smiths Detection division, you will be working with our EMEA legal team, and your expertise will be a cornerstone for the success of the team. In this multifaceted role, you will be entrusted with a wide array of legal, commercial, and compliance responsibilities. You will be able to develop your skills working with our business teams in a variety of different jurisdictions. Duties & Responsibilities
Commercial Contracts
  • Primary focus on commercial contracting which entails review, reporting and negotiation with customers of third-party sales contracts, which necessitate robust understanding of Company\xe2\x80\x99s preferred terms and close coordination with internal stakeholders such as sales.
  • Review and negotiate other contracts as needed including service agreements, product loan and testing agreements, sourcing contracts, lease agreements as well as non-disclosure agreements.
  • Assisting with drafting, executing, and renewing distribution agreements across the EMEA region, including co-ordination of the distributor due diligence reviews as per company policy.
Contracts Management
  • Supporting the Legal team with the implementation of a contract management tool.
  • Assist with training for business users.
  • Assist with development and implementation of new contract templates.
  • Responsible for the migration of the existing contracts archive and archiving of additional contracts going forward.
Departmental matters
  • Initiate due diligence searches in a licensed external tool and evaluate search reports.
  • Provide support for other divisional legal tools and applications, such as the managing and refreshing the legal department\xe2\x80\x99s intranet and SharePoint tools.

The Individual
  • Educational Background: A law degree from an accredited university or an equivalent legal qualification.
  • Professional Experience: A minimum of 2+ years of PQE (Post-Qualified Experience) is required, which should include experience in law firms and/or in-house legal departments. Having a combination of law firm and in-house experience is a plus.
  • Contract Expertise: Demonstrated proficiency in commercial contract drafting and negotiation, showcasing your ability to navigate complex contractual arrangements effectively.
  • Proactive Approach: A dynamic, energetic, and positive \'can do\' attitude, illustrating your dedication to tackling challenges head-on and delivering results.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: A proven ability to work harmoniously with multiple stakeholders within a corporate environment, as teamwork and coordination are paramount in this role.
Language Skills:
  • Full fluency (spoken and written) in both English and French is essential, given the diverse operational landscape of the EMEA region.
  • Any other language skills would be considered a valuable asset, enhancing your ability to engage with a broader range of stakeholders.
