MIG WELDER:
1.Measure and mark work pieces using straightedges, rules, and calipers
2.Cut and smoothen metal components using plasma cutters, portable grinders, lathe, and milling machines
3.Read and interpret blueprints and production drawings in order to lay out a welding project
4.Operate forklifts/cranes and use them in conveying work materials to welding site
5.Collaborate with project managers and welding supervisors to ensure smooth work operations
ARC WELDER:
1.Welds together metal components of products, such as pipelines, automobiles, boilers, ships, aircraft, and mobile homes, as specified by layout, blueprints, diagram, work order, welding procedures, or oral instructions, using electric arc-welding equipment: Obtains specified electrode and inserts electrode into portable holder or threads consumable electrode wire through portable welding gun.
2.Connects cables from welding unit to obtain amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse, as specified by WELDING ENGINEER or WELDING TECHNICIAN.
3.Starts power supply to produce electric current.
4.Strikes arc which generates heat to melt and deposit metal from electrode to workpiece and join edges of workpiece.
5.May be designated according to type of equipment used as Welder, Carbon Arc; Welder, Flux-Cored Arc; Welder, Gas-Metal Arc; Welder, Gas-Tungsten Arc; Welder, Hand, Submerged Arc; Welder, Plasma Arc; Welder, Shielded-Metal Arc.
6.May operate other machine shop equipment to prepare components for welding
