Job Summary:
The Instrumentation Technician (Water Treatment) is responsible for the installation, maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and optimization of instrumentation systems in water treatment facilities. This role involves ensuring that water quality parameters such as pH, chlorine levels, turbidity, and flow rates are accurately monitored and controlled. The technician will work with senior engineers to improve system performance, troubleshoot complex instrumentation issues, and support the integration of new technologies. This position requires technical expertise in instrumentation, control systems, and water treatment processes, and offers opportunities to mentor junior technicians.
Key Responsibilities:
• Installation, Calibration, and Configuration of Instruments:
• Install, calibrate, and configure instrumentation systems, including pH meters, chlorine analyzers, turbidity sensors, flow meters, pressure transmitters, and other devices used for water quality monitoring and treatment control.
• Ensure that all instruments are correctly integrated with SCADA, PLCs, and control systems for seamless data acquisition and control.
• Develop and update calibration procedures to ensure that instrumentation systems meet operational standards and regulatory requirements.
• Routine Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
• Perform routine and preventive maintenance on instrumentation systems to ensure continuous and accurate operation.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose complex instrumentation problems, identifying faults or failures in sensors, transmitters, controllers, or communication systems.
• Work with senior engineers to develop and implement corrective actions to resolve instrumentation issues and minimize system downtime.
• System Optimization and Performance Monitoring:
• Monitor the performance of instrumentation systems and make adjustments to improve accuracy, reliability, and system efficiency.
• Analyze data from instrumentation systems to identify trends, anomalies, and areas for process optimization.
• Implement improvements in instrumentation setups to optimize water treatment processes and ensure that water quality meets regulatory standards.
• Integration of New Technologies:
• Assist in the integration of new instrumentation technologies, including advanced sensors, IoT-based devices, and automated control systems into existing water treatment infrastructure.
• Work closely with engineers to upgrade existing systems, improve data collection capabilities, and integrate new technologies for process optimization and efficiency improvements.
• Data Management and Reporting:
• Collect and analyze data from water quality monitoring instruments to track system performance and ensure compliance with water quality standards.
• Maintain accurate records of calibration, maintenance, and inspection activities, ensuring documentation is up-to-date for both operational use and regulatory compliance.
• Assist in the generation of performance and compliance reports for senior management and regulatory agencies.
Training and Mentoring of Junior Technicians:
• Provide guidance and training to junior technicians, helping them develop skills in the installation, calibration, and maintenance of instrumentation systems.
• Mentor junior staff to troubleshoot common instrumentation issues and improve their understanding of water treatment instrumentation and control systems.
• Lead by example in maintaining a high level of quality, safety, and technical expertise.
Maintainance Activities:
• Perform periodic maintenance of field instruments such as MOVs, PTs, FTs, ATs, TTs, LT enclosures, etc., as per client-provided checklists.
• Conduct wiring, termination, and glanding of power and instrumentation cables.
• Execute cable pulling and manual excavation for duct laying, as required.
Team Support:
• Assist engineers and team leaders in addressing site issues and resolving challenges.
• Support housekeeping and dewatering activities as needed.
Compliance and Safety:
• Strictly adhere to safety protocols at the site, including the use of PPE such as safety shoes, helmets, and other required gear.
• Ensure safe working practices in line with client safety standards.
Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams:
• Collaborate with engineers, operators, and maintenance teams to ensure effective integration and operation of instrumentation systems across various plant functions.
• Work closely with the operations team to resolve instrumentation-related issues and support the smooth operation of water treatment processes.
• Provide input into system design and configuration discussions to improve the efficiency and reliability of water treatment systems.

• Instrumentation System Optimization: Ensure the calibration, maintenance, and optimization of instrumentation systems to support efficient water treatment operations.
• Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Manage the troubleshooting and repair of complex instrumentation and control system issues to minimize downtime and ensure continuous water treatment operations.
• Water Quality Monitoring and Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that water quality monitoring systems are functioning accurately and in compliance with regulatory standards.
• Integration of New Technologies: Assist with the integration of new instrumentation and automation technologies to improve water treatment efficiency and reliability.
• Mentoring and Development: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior technicians to develop their technical skills and improve team performance.
Skills and Knowledge Required:
• Strong understanding of water treatment processes and the role of instrumentation in monitoring and controlling water quality (e.g., pH, chlorine, turbidity, flow, pressure).
• Proficiency in the installation, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of water treatment instrumentation systems (e.g., flow meters, pH meters, chlorine analyzers, pressure transmitters).
• Experience with SCADA, PLCs, and control systems, including their integration with instrumentation systems for process monitoring and control.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues with instrumentation systems.
• Knowledge of safety and regulatory standards in water treatment and industrial instrumentation systems.
• Ability to work collaboratively with engineers, operators, and other technical teams to address issues and improve system performance.
• Good documentation skills, with the ability to maintain accurate records and generate detailed reports on instrumentation performance and compliance.
Educational Qualifications:
• ITI/Technical Certificate in Instrumentation & Controls Engineering or Bachelor's degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Certifications in instrumentation systems, process control, or water treatment processes are advantageous.
Experience:
• 3-5 years of experience in instrumentation, process control, or water treatment systems, with a focus on the maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of instrumentation systems.
• Experience with SCADA, PLCs, and industrial automation systems in a water treatment or similar industrial setting is highly preferred.
Tools and Technologies:
• Experience with SCADA software platforms (e.g., Siemens WinCC, Wonderware, Ignition) and PLC systems (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley).
• Familiarity with water quality monitoring instruments (e.g., pH meters, chlorine analyzers, turbidity sensors).
• Knowledge of industrial instrumentation tools and diagnostic equipment (e.g., multimeters, oscilloscopes, calibration devices).
• Proficiency in data logging, analysis, and reporting tools (e.g., Excel, SQL, Power BI).
Other Requirements:
• Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with the ability to guide and develop junior technicians.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, ensuring timely completion and meeting operational goals.
• Willingness to work in both field and office environments, including occasional travel for troubleshooting or system upgrades.
