The primary responsibilities of an Insole Technician include taking precise measurements, creating casts for shoe inserts, and custom fitting these devices to ensure optimal comfort and effectiveness for patients. Insole Technicians must be certified and generally work in hospitals, orthopedic clinics, or other medical facilities.
• Manufacturing: Produce orthotic products, primarily insoles, following detailed instructions from podiatrists.
• Adjustment and Repair: Grind, adjust, and repair insoles to ensure they meet the specified requirements. Add top covers as needed.
• Preparation: Prepare and scan impression boxes. Create and adjust CAD models of impressions in line with podiatrist instructions.
• Production Support: Manufacture other orthotic products as required. Collaborate with fellow technicians to improve processes and overall production effectiveness.
• Health & Safety: Maintain health and safety standards. Comply with all OSH (Occupational Safety and Health) and infection control policies, standards, and procedures.
• Quality Assurance: Ensure all QA (Quality Assurance) systems and working practices are strictly adhered to at all times.
• Housekeeping: Maintain good housekeeping standards in the work area.
• Training: Undertake training as deemed necessary to stay updated with the latest industry standards and practices.
• KPI Achievement: Achieve departmental KPI's (key performance indicators).
• Inventory Management: Escalate stock shortages for the area and troubleshoot issues as required.
• Waste Management: Minimize waste and comply with waste management procedures and policies.
• Emergency Procedures: Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures. Notify OSH hazards, incidents, near misses, and issues, and assist with the preparation of risk assessments and incident reports.
• Certification or diploma in orthotics, prosthetics, or a related field is preferred.
• Proven experience in insole manufacturing and orthotic product production.
• Proficiency with tools and materials used in insole production.
• Experience with CAD software for creating and adjusting models.
• Strong understanding of health and safety standards and quality assurance protocols.
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
