Job Description

:The Infection Control Nurse is trained in hospital epidemiology principles and is responsible for the surveillance, analysis, and reporting of nosocomial infections; educating employees about infection control; and the development of health system policies and procedures to insure rigorous infection control standards that meet JCIA Standards and Center for Disease Control and Prevention requirements.Responsibilities: * Participates in establishing and implementing departmental goals, objectives, policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate in conducting ongoing review of hospital policies, procedures, and guidelines to identify infection control discrepancies and implements revisions as necessary.
  • Ensure departmental goals are compatible with, and enhance the hospital and organization\'s mission, values, and strategic plan.
  • Provides information to hospital committees and department managers to formulate changes in the policies, procedures and/or processes which could reduce the spread of infection.
  • Interacts with physicians, nurses, department managers, supervisors, and other professional/non-professional staff members to provide resource information, resolve infection control problems, and identify new opportunities to improve service and reduce costs.
  • Identify infectious disease process and conduct on-going surveillance using Center of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) infection criteria, documentation, and investigation of nosocomial infections through review of admission diagnoses, microbiology culture results, isolation orders, patient records, consultation requests, post-discharge surveillance, and autopsy findings.
  • Recommend and evaluate procedures or policy statements relating to infection control within NMC Specialty Hospital DIP.
  • Maintain a knowledge base of current infection prevention and control information through peer networking. Internet access, published literature and professional meetings.
  • Maintain an updated reference manual on infectious diseases and hospital infection control as recommended by the Joint Commission for the Accreditation of Hospitals.
  • Participates as a member of the code black team as per hospital policy.
  • Ensures that all relevant paperwork and supporting documentation are completed to the highest standards.
  • Demonstrates deep knowledge and participates in fire safety, patient safety, infection control, waste management and the other necessary precautions as per hospital policy.
  • Assists in the development of unit Policies and Procedures, which involve patient care issues.
  • Co-ordinates for the Prevention and Control of Infections committee meetings and record minutes.
  • Demonstrates strict adherence to all hospital policies and procedure.
  • Carries out any other duties as instructed by the Nursing Administrator/Medical Director / PCI committee.
  • Ensures the implementation and evaluation of standards for high quality patient care.
  • Possesses priority role in the preparedness response to the outbreak of the pandemic.
  • Training the health care workers in new guidelines of pandemic as the updates are released.
  • Makes sure that the health care workers follow proper infection control practices during the pandemic.
  • Equips self to deal with the prolonged crisis of the pandemic and stays ever ready on the front lines.
Qualifications: * Graduate of accredited school/ college in nursing.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
  • Three years of experience as a Registered Nurse. Prefer at least one year of experience or additional course work or certification in infection control.
  • Current license in country of origin with DHA license as a RN in the Emirates of Dubai.
  • Preferably with a National Certification in Infection Control or its equivalent.
  • Must display a neat, clean, professional appearance.
  • Must understand importance of and maintain confidentiality of patient information.
  • Exhibit an attitude, which promotes harmony and goodwill among patients, caregivers, and co-workers.
  • Must communicates clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Must communicate in a timely manner.
  • Must be able to listens effectively to patient, caregivers, co-workers, and supervisor.
