The Role of Head of Physical Education

As the Head of PE, you will play a pivotal role in leading and developing the PE department, ensuring the delivery of a high-quality physical education program that promotes students' physical, social, and emotional development. Your responsibilities will include:

Developing and implementing policies and practices for the PE department that reflect the school's vision and commitment to high standards. Establishing, monitoring, and evaluating short, medium, and long-term plans for the development of the department. Using data effectively to identify students who are underachieving in PE and creating and implementing action plans to support those students. Ensuring curriculum coverage, continuity, and progression in PE for all students, including those of high ability and those with special educational needs. Implementing clear policies and practices for assessing, recording, and reporting on student achievement. Leading and managing the PE staff, including performance management, mentoring, and supporting professional development. Coordinating and organizing school sports events, competitions, and extracurricular activities. Managing the department's resources, budget, and staff development needs. Ensuring a safe working and learning environment in which risks are correctly assessed and Health and Safety policies and regulations are observed at all times.

What We're Looking For

We are seeking a leader who can demonstrate:

Outstanding subject knowledge of physical education. The ability to create a vibrant and engaging learning environment for PE. Experience with current UK educational initiatives and developments. A passion for sports and fitness, with a commitment to achieving the highest standards in physical education. The ability to develop and embody a rich extracurricular programme. To plan and coordinate all trips, local and within the wider UAE. To plan and organise fixtures against other competing schools. The ability to support creative learning and foster 21st-century skills in students. Confidence in using technology to enhance and extend learning. Experience in using data and assessments to track and support student progress. Experience teaching EAL (English as an Additional Language) students is desirable but not essential.

Qualifications and Experience

A degree in Physical Education or a related field. A recognised teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, B.Ed., or equivalent). Proven experience teaching PE, preferably in an international or multicultural school environment Strong organisational and communication skills. A passion for promoting a healthy and active lifestyle. Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
