Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Staff Management: Supervise, train, and evaluate nursing staff in the ophthalmology and orthopedic departments. Provide leadership, support, and mentorship to ensure the team provides compassionate and efficient care. Oversee the scheduling and assignment of nursing staff to ensure adequate coverage. Monitor staff performance and provide ongoing education, feedback, and performance evaluations.

Clinical Care & Patient Safety:

Ensure that nursing staff adhere to hospital policies, procedures, and the highest standards of care. Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans for both ophthalmology and orthopedic patients. Work with physicians to ensure coordinated care and treatment plans. Monitor and assess patients' progress, adjust care plans as needed, and intervene in case of complications. Ensure the safe administration of medications and proper documentation of patient care. Collaboration with Multidisciplinary Teams: Collaborate with physicians, physical therapists, surgeons, and other medical professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care. Participate in patient rounds and care planning meetings, offering nursing perspectives on patient treatment and recovery. Serve as a liaison between nursing staff and other healthcare providers, addressing concerns and facilitating communication.

Quality Improvement & Compliance:

Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including infection control and patient confidentiality standards. Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care, safety, and satisfaction. Ensure that the department meets all accreditation and regulatory standards. Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, reports, and documentation. Patient and Family Education: Educate patients and families on treatment plans, procedures, and post-operative care. Provide support and counseling to patients and their families during recovery, helping them manage expectations and address concerns. Offer advice and guidance on lifestyle changes and rehabilitation for orthopedic patients.

Administrative Responsibilities:

Maintain records of staff performance, incidents, and patient outcomes. Prepare and manage department budgets, ensuring cost-effective use of resources. Assist in the development and revision of department policies and procedures. Handle staffing concerns, grievances, and other HR-related matters within the nursing team.

Training & Development:

Lead and organize training programs to ensure that all staff members are updated on the latest protocols and best practices for ophthalmology and orthopedics. Encourage ongoing professional development, including certification in specialized areas such as orthopedic nursing or ophthalmic nursing.

Required Qualifications:

Education

Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) is required; Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) or related field is preferred. Valid DHA License holder.

Experience:

Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience, with at least 2 years in ophthalmology and/or orthopedics. At least 2 years of leadership or supervisory experience in a healthcare setting. Licensure: CPR and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications are required. Skills and Abilities: Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities. In-depth knowledge of ophthalmology and orthopedic nursing practices, including surgeries, patient care, and post-operative management. Ability to handle high-stress situations and respond quickly to emergencies Proficiency in healthcare software and patient management systems.
