Graduate Social Consultant - Abu Dhabi, UAEAn opportunity has arisen for a highly disciplined Graduate Social Consultant to join our offices in Abu Dhabi, UAE to help deliver environmental projects.Successful candidates will be working on high profile projects helping some of Middle Easts leading organisations to safeguard the environment for the future.The successful candidates duties and responsibilities will include:
  • Supporting senior consultants/technical leads on a wide range of projects in the Middle East in the preparation of technical reports including environmental, social and health impact assessments (ESHIA), environment and social due diligence (ESDD), social-economic baseline studies (SEBS), stakeholder engagement (SE) activities, resettlement action plan (RAP), environmental and social management systems (ESMS), social management and mitigation plans (SMMP).
  • Co-ordinate site visits and socio-economic surveys for baseline data collection, analysis and assessment.
  • Compilation of regulatory framework documents containing local, national, and international legislation, standards, and guidelines (such as the International Finance Corporation Performance Standards, World Bank Group Environmental, Health and Safety Guidelines, and Equator Principles).
  • Providing advice to clients regarding applying local regulatory requirements and international best practice standards and guidelines related to social risk management, including impact assessment and management planning.
  • Carrying out research into social issues.
  • Production of technical and commercial proposals.
  • Liaising with project team, clients, subcontractors, suppliers and regulators.
  • Project administration and financial management.
  • Business development, including client relationships, contribution to papers and conferences.
Desired experience and skills
  • Hold a 2:1 or 1st class honours degree in social science, anthropology or related discipline.
  • Preferably MSc. qualified in a relevant subject.
  • Interest or experience in developing specialism in social subjects (impact assessment/safeguards) and other cross-cutting community well-being issues (advantageous).
  • Bilingual in Arabic and English (written and verbal) communication skills.
  • Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office package.
  • Data analysis and use of database management tools (advantageous).
  • Use of GIS software and tools (advantageous).
  • Some knowledge of local regulatory requirements and international best practice standards and guidelines (advantageous).
  • Currently possessing professional Membership or willingness to work towards achieving the membership.
  • Some experience working on consultancy projects (advantageous).
  • Willingness to travel for short periods of time across the region, including KSA and Iraq.
  • Ability to think critically and work proactively.
  • Good team player with the ability to work autonomously.
  • Enthusiastic and well-organised.
  • Full driving license (advantageous).
