The company was founded on May 29, 1933 and is headquartered in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.Job SummaryThe Downstream Strategy & Planning Engineer will join the Investment & Portfolio Analysis Division in the Downstream Strategy and Capital Planning Department (DS&CP). DS&CP is responsible for the coordination (and development support) of all of SAO\'s Downstream Investment Plan and Strategy. It also provides quantitative input to SAO\'s Downstream Executive Committees, working in close cooperation with other Strategy & Capital Planning Divisions across the organization.The Downstream Strategy & Planning Engineer\'s primary role is to provide quantitative analysis and confirmation of SAO\'s Downstream Investment Plan strategic fit.Responsibilities:
  • Conducts techno-economic analysis on various Downstream Opportunities, particularly focusing on integrated Refining / Petrochemicals assets and their integration with downstream segments like Trading and Retail. Evaluates their alignment with SAO\'s Downstream strategy.
  • Develops quantitative analysis on sustainability and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) implications for SAO\'s Downstream Investment Plan, with a specific emphasis on emissions and product carbon footprint evaluations.
  • Collaborates with all Downstream Business units and other corporate functions to establish and update appropriate investment analysis criteria.
  • Provides commercial and technical expertise in executing the downstream strategy, including assessing strategic options, identifying tradeoffs, and developing implementation plans.
Requirements:
  • This role required candidate to permanently relocate at Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.
  • Strongly preferred Bachelor\'s degree in a Chemical Engineering related field; an MBA or relevant advanced degree is highly desirable.
  • Possess a minimum of 15 years of professional experience encompassing operations, technology, and business development, with a proven track record of conducting economic and commercial evaluations for downstream opportunities. This experience should primarily cover refining and petrochemicals but also extend to other segments such as trading, retail, and low carbon energies.
  • Proficient in asset techno-economic modeling and optimization tools (e.g., PIMS, Petroplan), as well as adept at utilizing data from prominent downstream/industry consulting entities (such as IHS (S&P), WoodMac, Rydstad).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of main Refining and Chemicals process technologies, including recent advancements in the sustainability space (e.g., decarbonization, circularity, non-fossil feedstocks).
  • Familiarity with global energy markets and their trends, showcasing a strong external perspective and a robust professional network.
  • Ideally, possess international and multicultural working exposure.
