Geotechnical Engineer (Design)
Dubai, UAE
Parsons is seeking a motivated and experienced Geotechnical Engineer to join our Project Management Consultant (PMC) team for a high-profile infrastructure project. The role involves managing geotechnical investigations, providing technical input for foundation and earthworks design, and supporting the construction phase to ensure compliance with project specifications and safety standards.
The Geotechnical Engineer is an integral member of the Project Management Consultant (PMC) team, responsible for managing and addressing all geotechnical aspects of a large-scale infrastructure project. This role involves planning and supervising site investigations, analyzing geotechnical data, and providing technical guidance on the design and construction of foundations, tunnels, embankments, retaining structures, and other geotechnical components.
The incumbent will work closely with contractors, consultants, and regulatory authorities to ensure geotechnical solutions are practical, cost-effective, and compliant with international standards and local regulations. The role demands strong analytical skills, a proactive approach to risk management, and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to resolve challenges and deliver high-quality outcomes. Key to the success of this role is the ability to assess ground conditions, anticipate risks such as settlement or instability, and propose mitigation strategies to maintain project timelines and safety. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in geotechnical principles and advanced knowledge of soil and rock mechanics, ground improvement techniques, and construction methodologies.
What You'll Be Doing:
Geotechnical Investigations
• Plan, manage, and oversee geotechnical site investigations, including borehole drilling, soil sampling, and in-situ testing.
• Analyze geotechnical data to evaluate ground conditions and provide recommendations for design and construction.
Design Support
• Review and provide input on geotechnical designs, including foundations, slope stability, retaining walls, and ground improvement methods.
• Ensure designs align with international standards (e.g., Eurocodes, BS, ASTM) and local regulations.
Construction Monitoring
• Oversee geotechnical activities during construction, such as excavation, dewatering, piling, and soil stabilization.
• Conduct site inspections to verify compliance with geotechnical designs and specifications.
• Address unforeseen ground conditions and recommend appropriate remedial measures.
Risk Management
• Identify geotechnical risks, such as settlement, slope failure, or soil instability, and develop mitigation strategies.
• Support risk assessments and implement measures to manage geotechnical uncertainties.
Technical Expertise :
• Conduct detailed analyses and provide robust geotechnical recommendations to ensure the stability and durability of infrastructure.
Coordination and Collaboration
• Work closely with the Senior Geotechnical Engineer, structural and civil teams, and other stakeholders to integrate geotechnical solutions into the overall project.
• Liaise with contractors, consultants, and regulatory authorities to ensure alignment on geotechnical requirements.
Testing and Quality Assurance
• Review laboratory and field test results for soil and rock properties to validate design assumptions.
• Implement quality assurance protocols for geotechnical works, ensuring adherence to project requirements.
Documentation and Reporting
• Prepare geotechnical reports, including analysis findings, design recommendations, and progress updates.
• Maintain detailed records of geotechnical activities and testing results for compliance and future reference.
### Stakeholder Collaboration :
• ### Act as a key liaison between project teams, contractors, and regulatory bodies to align geotechnical works with project objectives.
What Required Skills You'll Bring:
• Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering , Civil Engineering , or a related field. A Master's degree is an advantage.
• Relevant certifications in geotechnical engineering or soil mechanics.
• Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) certification is an advantage.
• Minimum 5-10 years of design experience in geotechnical engineering, preferably in large-scale infrastructure projects such as Metro, Rail, Highways, or Tunneling .
• Proven experience in geotechnical investigations, design, and construction support.
• Proficiency in geotechnical analysis and design software (e.g., PLAXIS, GeoStudio, Rocscience, AutoCAD Civil 3D).
• Strong understanding of soil mechanics, foundation design, and ground improvement techniques.
• Knowledge of international geotechnical standards and best practices.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to work with multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
