Furniture Upholstery & Carpentry Professional Overview: We are seeking a skilled and experienced Furniture Upholstery & Carpentry Professional to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for woodworking and upholstery, along with a keen eye for detail and craftsmanship. This role involves both creating new furniture pieces from scratch and restoring/refurbishing existing pieces. The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of tasks including carpentry, upholstery, repair work, and finishing. Responsibilities:
- Upholstery Work: Proficiently apply upholstery materials such as fabric, leather, foam, and padding to furniture frames.
- Fabric Cutting and Sewing: Measure, cut, and sew upholstery materials to precise dimensions, ensuring a snug and professional fit.
- Frame Preparation: Prepare furniture frames for upholstery work by inspecting for damages, reinforcing weak areas, and making necessary repairs.
- Carpentry Work: Constructing furniture pieces from various materials such as wood, metal, and composite materials. This includes cutting, shaping, and assembling components to create high-quality furniture items.
- Repair and Restoration: Identify and address any damages or defects in existing upholstery, including tears, stains, or worn-out padding. Assessing damaged furniture pieces and performing necessary repairs and restoration work. This may involve fixing broken frames, replacing worn-out upholstery, or refinishing surfaces.
- Finishing: Applying finishes such as stains, paints, and varnishes to furniture surfaces to enhance their appearance and durability. Ensuring that finished pieces meet quality standards and customer specifications.
- Customization: Collaborate with clients and designers to understand their preferences and specifications for custom upholstery projects. Designing and creating bespoke furniture items tailored to individual client needs.
- Quality Control: Inspect finished upholstery work to ensure it meets quality standards, including seam strength, alignment, and overall appearance.
- Maintaining Equipment: Keep upholstery tools and equipment clean, organized, and properly maintained for optimal performance.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment, including the proper use of personal protective equipment.
- Proven experience in furniture upholstery & carpentry, with a strong portfolio showcasing previous projects and expertise in various upholstery techniques, preferably in a professional workshop or manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in woodworking techniques, including cutting, shaping, and joining materials to create furniture pieces.
- Proficiency in fabric cutting, sewing, and pattern matching to achieve seamless upholstery finishes.
- Strong knowledge of upholstery materials, including different types of fabric, leather, foam, and padding, and their suitable applications.
- Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail and craftsmanship, with a commitment to producing high-quality upholstery work.
- Adaptability: Ability to work on a variety of furniture pieces, from modern to antique, and adapt upholstery techniques accordingly.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and design specifications to create accurate furniture pieces.
- Communication Skills: Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with clients, designers, and other team members.
- Physical Stamina: Physical fitness and stamina to perform manual tasks such as lifting, bending, and stretching for extended periods.
- Flexibility to work on a variety of projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
- Safety Awareness: Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations related to upholstery work, with a focus on preventing accidents and injuries.
- Vocational training or certification in carpentry, upholstery, or a related field.
- Experience working with a variety of woodworking tools and equipment, including saws, drills, sanders, and routers.
- Familiarity with CAD/CAM software for designing and prototyping furniture pieces.
- Portfolio showcasing previous furniture carpentry and upholstery projects.
