Purpose of the job:VALR is looking for a Compliance Officer/Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) to join our growing global Compliance team specifically for VALR FZE (Dubai). Working in VALR's Compliance team means working at the forefront of the cutting-edge world of cryptocurrency, blockchain and fintech while dealing directly with VALR's clients and vendors. You will report directly to VALR's Group Chief Compliance Officer.You will be an integral member of the VALR Compliance team. With support from our VALR Group Chief Compliance Officer, you will work together with our Group Chief Compliance Officer and our Country Manager to ensure that VALR FZE efficiently and comprehensively complies with all compliance obligations as detailed by the Dubai Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA) and any upcoming regulations that may arise.What will you be doing:
Carry out the role of the Compliance Officer/MLRO for VALR FZE, which includes reporting and responding to law enforcement requests and inquiries.
Maintain an AML/CTF framework including all the relevant policies and procedures within such a framework.
Maintain records of internal and external reports, take subsequent action and maintain records of reasons for submission / non-submission.
Prepare compliance audit data by compiling and analyzing internal information.
Liaise with other teams to prepare data required for the submission of reports requested by the regulators.
Keep up to date with all relevant regulatory changes in the UAE market as well as evolving best practices, carrying out gap and business impact analysis.
Review marketing materials to ensure compliance with regulatory and scheme requirements.
Lead the preparation and coordination of responses to requests submitted by the regulatory authorities.
Maintain and implement an AML/CTF training programme and ensure that the VALR employees are adequately trained.
Act as a central contact point with the relevant Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit.
Liaise with relevant authorities and the police to investigate suspicious activity.
Receive and investigate internal suspicious reports and report external suspicious activity.
Periodic reporting to the Board of Directors and Chief Compliance Officer, including status updates on the AML/CTF controls and any gaps to be addressed.
Act as an escalation point in terms of AML / CTF matters.
Advise the Executive Team and the Board of Directors on money laundering suspicions and provide clear guidelines and ways forward regarding the application of the AML / CTF framework and internal Controls.
Manage internal compliance operational controls, and carry out independent reviews and examinations as required.
Identify, highlight, and manage regulatory risks, findings, and recommendations identified internally or by independent reviews or examinations.
Facilitate the development and maintenance of the appropriate AML/CTF culture within VALR FZE.
Work with management and staff to ensure that the business implements and maintains suitable systems and controls to meet the AML/CTF requirements.
Perform any other duties and responsibilities required to ensure that VALR FZE is compliant with applicable AML/CTF regulations.
Report to and assist the Group Chief Compliance Officer, Country Manager & Global Compliance team.
Assisting with ad hoc projects, including ad hoc submissions and requests.
Any other MLRO and compliance-related duties as mandated by law from time to time.
What we look for in you:Skills relevant to the job include the education and/or experience, specialised training, and competencies required.
Minimum of two years experience handling AML/CTF matters.
Minimum of five years experience in a compliance function.
Qualification as a Fit and Proper Person\' as approved by VARA.
Resident in the UAE or hold a UAE passport.
Technical/Core competencies required:
Regulatory compliance focussed.
Strong compliance management skills with a focus on being pragmatic and practical.
Passionate about and knowledge of crypto and/or alternative financial systems.
Excellent computer and communication skills.
The ability to support a globally distributed business.
