Position Summary:
The Facilities Engineer Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, operation, and safety of all campus buildings, grounds, and physical infrastructure. This includes supervising the engineering and maintenance team, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, managing energy systems, and coordinating facility upgrades and repairs. The role requires a combination of technical expertise, leadership skills, and effective project management to ensure that the school's facilities are safe, efficient, and conducive to the educational environment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Leadership & Supervision:
• Supervise a team of facilities engineers, technicians, and maintenance staff.
• Provide training, coaching, and performance evaluations to staff to ensure high levels of service and productivity.
• Assign tasks, set priorities, and monitor progress on maintenance, repairs, and projects.
• Foster a collaborative, team-oriented environment focused on delivering efficient facilities services.
• Maintenance & Repairs:
• Oversee the preventative maintenance and repair of all school facilities, including HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical systems, and building infrastructure.
• Coordinate emergency repairs and maintenance, ensuring timely response and resolution to issues affecting safety and functionality.
• Maintain and update maintenance schedules for all systems and equipment.
• Project Management:
• Manage capital improvement and renovation projects, from initial planning through completion.
• Collaborate with contractors, vendors, and internal departments to ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required standards.
• Oversee the installation, maintenance, and operation of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
• Safety & Compliance:
• Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including safety standards, building codes, and environmental guidelines.
• Conduct regular inspections of facilities to identify hazards and implement corrective actions.
• Monitor and enforce school safety protocols, especially regarding facility usage, emergency procedures, and environmental health.
• Energy Management:
• Monitor and optimize the school's energy consumption to ensure sustainability and cost-efficiency.
• Recommend and implement energy-saving initiatives, such as upgrades to lighting systems, heating/cooling efficiencies, and renewable energy projects.
• Maintain energy management systems to monitor and report on utility usage and associated costs.
• Budgeting & Reporting:
• Assist in the preparation and management of the facilities department budget.
• Track expenditures related to facilities operations and maintenance, ensuring cost-effective practices.
• Prepare reports on facilities performance, maintenance activities, and project statuses for school leadership.
• Customer Service & Collaboration:
• Serve as a point of contact for faculty, staff, and students regarding facilities-related concerns or issues.
• Work with the administration to plan for future facilities needs based on growth, renovations, or other requirements.
• Ensure that the physical environment supports the school's academic, extracurricular, and community activities.
Qualifications:
• Education:
• Bachelor's degree in facilities management, engineering, construction management, or a related field (preferred).
• Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Facility Manager, LEED Accreditation, HVAC, electrical, or plumbing certifications) are a plus.
• Experience:
• At least 5-7 years of experience in facilities maintenance or engineering, with at least 2-3 years in a supervisory role.
• Experience in a school or educational environment is preferred but not required.
• Skills & Abilities:
• Strong technical knowledge of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, security systems, etc.).
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
• Knowledge of safety regulations, environmental compliance, and sustainability practices.
• Physical Requirements:
• Ability to work in various environments, including mechanical rooms, rooftops, and outdoor areas.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work in physically demanding situations as necessary.
Working Conditions:
• Full-time position; hours may vary depending on the needs of the school.
• May require on-call availability for emergencies or after-hours work.
• Occasional travel for training or project management.
