- System Design: Designing fire protection systems including fire detection, alarm, and suppression systems based on building codes, standards (such as NFPA, FM Global, etc.), and client requirements. This involves creating detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and hydraulic calculations to ensure the systems meet safety and regulatory requirements.
- Estimation and Costing: Estimating the materials, equipment, and labor costs required for the installation of fire protection systems. This includes preparing comprehensive cost estimates and proposals for clients based on project specifications and scope.
- Technical Analysis: Conducting technical analysis and feasibility studies to determine the most appropriate fire protection systems for specific applications. This may involve evaluating different system types (e.g., sprinkler systems, gas suppression systems) and their effectiveness in various scenarios.
- Coordination and Collaboration: Working closely with architects, mechanical and electrical engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders throughout the design and construction phases. Collaboration is crucial to ensure that fire protection systems integrate seamlessly with other building systems and meet overall project objectives.
- Compliance and Standards: Ensuring that all designs and installations comply with relevant codes, standards, and regulations. Staying updated with industry trends and changes in fire protection technology and regulations is essential.
- Project Management Support: Providing support to project managers by assisting with scheduling, procurement, and technical oversight during the construction and commissioning phases of projects.
- Testing and Commissioning: Overseeing the testing and commissioning of fire protection systems to verify their functionality and performance. This includes conducting inspections and working with testing agencies to obtain necessary certifications.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintaining accurate documentation of design calculations, drawings, specifications, and project correspondence. Generating reports and documentation required for regulatory approvals and client handover.
