An

Automotive Gear Repair Mechanic

specializes in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining gear systems in vehicles, including transmissions, differentials, and other drivetrain components. This role involves working with manual and automatic transmissions, transfer cases, and gear-driven systems to ensure optimal vehicle performance.

Key Responsibilities:

Inspect, diagnose, and troubleshoot gear systems in vehicles, including transmissions, differentials, and transfer cases. Disassemble gear assemblies to assess wear, damage, or faulty components. Repair or replace worn-out parts such as gears, bearings, seals, and shafts. Reassemble and adjust gear systems for proper alignment and performance. Perform preventive maintenance, lubrication, and gear adjustments. Utilize diagnostic tools, micrometers, calipers, and other precision instruments. Read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics. Test repaired components to ensure proper operation before installation. Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts used, and maintenance activities. Follow safety procedures and ensure compliance with automotive repair regulations.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

Experience in automotive engine / gear repair, drivetrain maintenance, or transmission rebuilding. Strong understanding of manual and automatic transmissions, differentials, and transfer cases. Proficiency with diagnostic tools, hand tools, and power tools. Ability to read and interpret vehicle repair manuals and schematics. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Physical stamina to lift heavy components and work in tight spaces. Welding and machining experience (preferred but not required).

Work Environment:

Work in automotive repair shops, dealerships, or speciality transmission repair facilities. Exposure to grease, oil, and heavy machinery. Requires lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods. Use of protective gear, such as gloves, goggles, and coveralls.
