JOB DESCRIPTION:
Position Overview: An Electrical and Mechanical Draftsman is responsible for preparing detailed technical drawings and plans for electrical and mechanical systems based on project specifications and requirements. This role requires proficiency in drafting software, a strong understanding of engineering principles, and the ability to collaborate with engineers, architects, and other professionals to ensure accuracy and functionality in the designs.
Key Responsibilities:
• Drafting and Design:
• Prepare detailed electrical and mechanical drawings, schematics, layouts, and diagrams based on engineering specifications.
• Use computer-aided design (CAD) software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Revit, etc.) to produce accurate and clear technical drawings.
• Develop designs for electrical circuits, power distribution, and mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems.
• Collaboration with Engineers:
• Work closely with electrical and mechanical engineers to understand project requirements and refine designs.
• Revise and update drawings based on feedback from engineers and project managers.
• Assist in the preparation of bills of materials (BOM), cost estimates, and other technical documentation.
• Quality Control and Compliance:
• Ensure all drawings and designs comply with relevant codes, standards, and regulations.
• Review designs for accuracy, completeness, and practicality, making corrections as necessary.
• Conduct periodic reviews and revisions as per project needs or changes.
• Site Visits and Surveys:
• Conduct field surveys and site visits to gather measurements and data required for accurate drafting.
• Assist in identifying and resolving issues related to the installation of electrical and mechanical systems on-site.
• Document Management:
• Maintain organized and up-to-date records of all drawings, revisions, and design changes.
• Provide documentation for project teams and clients, ensuring proper filing and retrieval of design files.
• Problem Solving:
• Assist engineers in troubleshooting design issues or discrepancies during the design or installation phase.
• Suggest alternative solutions for system improvements or design optimizations.
Skills and Qualifications:
• Education: A degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Certification in drafting (e.g., CAD certification) is a plus.
• Experience: Proven experience (2-5 years) as a draftsman in electrical and mechanical design environments, ideally in construction, manufacturing, or industrial sectors.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks, etc.), 3D modeling, and drafting tools.
• Knowledge: Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems, components, and related standards and codes (e.g., NEC, ASME, ISO).
• Attention to Detail: Excellent attention to detail and the ability to spot errors or inconsistencies in drawings.
• Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, project managers, and clients.
• Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills to troubleshoot and find solutions for design and implementation challenges.
Working Conditions:
• Full-time position with potential overtime depending on project deadlines.
• Occasional site visits to construction sites or facilities.
• May require working in office environments or collaborative spaces.
