This role involves working closely with other MEP engineers (mechanical and plumbing) as well as architects, contractors, and project managers to ensure the electrical systems meet the design requirements, local building codes, and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
• Electrical System Design:
• Design and develop electrical systems for lighting, power, fire alarms, communication systems, and other electrical equipment.
• Prepare electrical drawings, schematics, and layouts for power distribution systems.
• Develop load calculations, short-circuit analysis, and fault current analysis for systems.
• Perform circuit breaker and transformer sizing, voltage drop calculations, and energy-efficient design solutions.
• Coordination & Collaboration:
• Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, and other MEP engineers to integrate electrical systems into the overall building design.
• Ensure electrical designs meet client specifications, budgets, and timelines.
• Assist project managers with project planning, budgeting, and scheduling to meet deadlines.
• Compliance & Standards:
• Ensure electrical designs comply with local building codes, national electrical codes (NEC), and other regulatory requirements.
• Review and approve design calculations and documents for compliance with safety and quality standards.
• Project Documentation & Reporting:
• Prepare technical specifications and tender documents for electrical works.
• Review contractor submittals, including shop drawings, and provide technical support during construction.
• Track project progress, prepare reports, and update stakeholders as needed.
• Energy Efficiency & Sustainability:
• Design systems that prioritize energy efficiency, sustainability, and renewable energy integration.
• Recommend solutions for energy conservation, including the use of low-energy lighting, photovoltaic systems, and other green technologies.
• Troubleshooting & Quality Control:
• Provide technical guidance during project execution and assist in troubleshooting electrical system issues.
• Perform site inspections during installation to ensure systems are installed according to design and meet quality standards.
Qualifications:
• Educational Background:
• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (Masters preferred).
• Professional certifications or memberships (e.g., IEEE, CIBSE) are a plus.
• Experience:
• 3+ years of experience in electrical system design, preferably in MEP engineering for buildings or infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of electrical design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and ETAP.
