Job Description

Reuters is looking for an exceptional journalist and newsroom leader to run the Middle East and North Africa region. It is one of the most important and high-profile roles in our global news organization. It requires an editor who has the news judgment, temperament and management skills to get the best out of talented, diverse and courageous teams of reporters.

You will have experience running large teams, excellent communication skills, impeccable news judgment, and the ability to drive both fast-breaking news and deeply reported projects. You will be a strong writer who can quickly relay the significance of events in the region to a global audience, whether working on financial news or geopolitics.

You will ideally speak Arabic and have the diplomatic skills to represent Reuters in dealing with governments and other authorities in the region.

About the Role

As our Middle East and North Africa Editor, you will:

• Have deep knowledge of the region
• Have a successful track record of running coverage of major international news

• Have managed a sizeable team of journalists, preferably across multiple locations
• Be able to mentor and coach staff, helping them to reach their potential
• Be an excellent collaborator, with a track record of working with other editors, including visuals colleagues, to achieve the best results
• Understand the needs of our major client groups: LSEG, agency media and digital professional clients
• Understand a variety of story-telling formats and when to use them

About You

To be our Middle East and North Africa Editor, you will likely:

• Speak Arabic and perhaps one other regional language
• Be based in Dubai, but another major centre in the region could be considered
