A Dry Utilities Engineer is responsible for the design, installation, and maintenance of infrastructure related to power distribution, telecommunications, gas supply, and other dry utility services. Below is a typical job description for a Dry Utilities Engineer:
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design and Planning:
• Develop detailed designs for power distribution, telecommunications, gas supply, and other dry utility systems.
• Coordinate with electrical engineers and telecommunications teams to ensure proper design integration.
• Prepare load calculations, system layouts, and route designs to ensure that dry utility systems meet demand and are installed efficiently.
• Ensure compliance with national, international codes and regulations in dry utility design and construction.
• Conduct feasibility studies and technical assessments for new infrastructure projects.
2. Project Management:
• Manage the dry utilities aspects of civil engineering projects, including cost estimation, scheduling, and resource allocation.
• Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, and utility providers to ensure timely and quality execution of dry utilities works.
• Review and approve technical submittals, material specifications, and equipment related to dry utilities.
3. Construction and Installation Oversight:
• Supervise on-site installation and construction of power, telecommunications, and gas infrastructure.
• Ensure that all installations comply with design specifications and adhere to quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
• Collaborate with contractors to resolve any technical issues that arise during installation and construction.
4. Regulatory Compliance and Permitting:
• Secure necessary permits and approvals from local, regional authorities for the installation of dry utilities.
• Ensure all dry utility systems are designed and built in compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
• Prepare technical documentation and ensure all designs comply with relevant utility provider standards.
5. Coordination with Stakeholders:
• Work closely with utility providers (electricity, gas, telecom companies) to align project requirements with their standards.
• Coordinate with civil, structural, and mechanical engineers to ensure dry utilities are integrated seamlessly into overall infrastructure projects.
• Communicate regularly with clients and project managers to update on project status and resolve any issues.
6. Maintenance and System Upgrades:
• Oversee the maintenance and upgrading of existing dry utility systems, including power lines, transformers, and communication networks.
• Troubleshoot issues in power supply, gas distribution, communication lines and recommend corrective actions.
• Implement system improvements to enhance reliability, efficiency, and safety.
7. Documentation and Reporting:
• Prepare technical drawings, specifications, reports, and as-built documentation for dry utility projects.
• Maintain accurate records of all project phases, including design, installation, and maintenance activities.
• Contribute to the preparation of bids, tenders, and proposals for dry utility projects.
8. Health and Safety:
• Ensure all work related to dry utilities follows strict health and safety protocols.
• Conduct risk assessments and implement safety measures for all installations and construction activities related to dry utilities.
Qualifications and Skills:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications in power distribution, telecommunications, or gas systems are a plus.
Experience:
• Minimum [10] years of experience in dry utilities engineering or related fields, out of which at least (3) years in Dubai project.
• Experience in the design and management of power, telecommunications, and gas distribution projects.
Technical Skills:
• Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, or equivalent.
• Strong understanding of dry utilities regulations and standards, including power grid design, Fiber optic cabling, and gas line installation.
• Familiarity with GIS software and utility mapping tools.
Soft Skills:
• Strong project management, organizational, and leadership skills.
• Excellent communication skills for coordinating with multiple teams and stakeholders.
• Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail.
Certifications:
• Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred or the ability to obtain one.
• Certifications in power distribution, telecommunications, or gas infrastructure are advantageous.
Work Environment:
• Split between office work and on-site project management with frequent site visits.
• May require visit to various locations for project oversight and coordination with the authorities.
