The department is highly regarded among our student body for the care and personal support offered to students. We are now looking for a Diploma Programme Curriculum Coordinator to join this successful team.Core Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrates positive leadership and highly effective communication skills
  • Maintains utmost confidentiality at all times, due to the nature of personnel disclosure within the department/grade level
  • Models and encourages a culture of kindness in support of the GEMS/GWA core values
  • Responsible for review, monitoring and quality assurance of DP programme within each department
  • Assists with the accomplishment of strategic school improvement plans, including but not limited to leading scheduled and walk-in tours for DP families, meeting with DP families to address concerns, oversee the development of departmental curriculum booklets, regularly update the Academy website with relevant and up-to-date DP information, lead coffee mornings for current and prospective families, attend marketing events for the Academy that take place outside of regular working hours, support with the retention of students in DP, etc.
  • Coordinate end-of-year check-out procedures
  • Leads all areas related to transitional events into the DP programme and into post-secondary education
  • Prepares all materials for marketing, public relations, and community announcements related to the DP
  • Serves as a consultant/instructional coach for department/grade level colleagues to address student academic, behaviour, social needs
  • Handles all EURs and matters related to university support following the publication of results
  • Line-management of CAS Coordinator, Extended Essay Coordinator, and TOK Coordinator
  • Inform management and teachers about any upcoming changes in the IB which will have an impact on the school
  • Maintain links to other IB schools for an understanding of best practices
  • Organise and host on-campus GEMS IB network events
Curriculum, Progress & Assessment
  • Ensure the DP programme in in full compliance with the IB Programme Standards and Practices
  • Update DP Handbook annually and monitor staff and students compliance with expectations set
  • Monitor all policies (specifically, homework and assessment policies) to ensure they are followed
  • Responsible for review, monitoring and quality assurance of Summative calendar on Managebac and communicating tasks with Directors of Learning as requested by Principal or Assistant Principals
  • Assists in the preparation of necessary documentation of curriculum materials following the guidance of the Assistant Principals and Principal
  • Attends and leads all related Director of Learning meetings
  • Participates in timetable development as requested by the Principal or Assistant Principals
  • Assists DP teachers with orientation to subject or grade level curriculum
  • Oversees the design and implementation of DP student interventions and assists team in the development of learning targets for students
  • Ensure Reporting is accurate and reflects expectations of the DP
  • Meet weekly with Directors of Learning to monitor DP programme
  • Responsible for review, collection, coordinating, typing, and copying, processing educational materials related to the annual budget request and ordering
  • Support with student subject selection
  • Oversee examination calendar and ensure all dates are included on GWA Calendar
  • Prepare termly and annual data analysis
  • Monitor and evaluate departmental moderation processes and scheduling of internal assessment deadlines
  • Develop and maintain connections in the GEMS IB Network to ensure progress of the curriculum
Teaching & Learning
  • Models highly effective principles of teaching and instructional differentiation
  • Effectively models, communicates, and supports the implementation of best practices
  • Proactively addresses grade/department concerns and resolves them in a timely, professional manner
  • Monitors appropriate quality and quantity of homework by department
  • Works as a contributing leader with other grade and department chairs
  • Coordinate all IB training for DP staff to ensure staff are fully qualified to deliver the DP programme. New staff should be IB trained before commencing the new Academic Year
  • Coordinate all DP staff weekly CPD
  • Suggest workshops and conferences to management and staff and attend events such as conferences to keep abreast of IB developments.
  • Plan and lead Orientation of new and existing staff
  • Maintain records related to Human Resources and appropriate training
  • Contribute to the creation of the INSET schedule and organize and oversee
Skills
  • A certified professional teaching qualification at degree level, such as B.Ed, PGCE, PGDE or equivalent
  • A proven track record as a successful leader
  • An experience in a similar supervisory/leadership role with teaching and learning and team management responsibilities
  • The experience, personality and educational philosophy to continue to drive the education agenda at the flagship GEMS World school with a truly diverse and international student body
  • The desire to provide outstanding teaching and learning and to influence the quality of student achievement
  • Aspiration to work in a world class school with real prospects for enhancing their career
  • Sensitivity and skill to lead and manage colleagues on the journey of improvement
  • Experience of working in the UAE and understanding of the KHDA framework
