Reporting to the Lead Dietician, the Dietician role is responsible for planning, developing and implementing nutritional and dietary-care programs to patients/individuals in line with MH and DOH/DHA policies, procedures, guidelines and standards. The incumbent is also responsible for providing nutritional and diet-related counseling and advice to patients and their family members to improve their nutrition status, health and wellbeing.
Responsibilities
Act as a point of liaison and resource for staff regarding nutrition management and care.
Participates in nutrition screening, referral, and management training for new staff during orientation/ induction
Performs initial nutrition assessments and reviews of patients and whenever possible recommends appropriate, evidence-based intervention and advice for the prevention and management of nutrition related disease & comorbidities and malnutrition.
Ensures continuity of care for patients with active nutrition issues
Facilitates referrals of patients with complex nutrition related issues beyond their scope of practice to more experienced Dietitians. This may necessitate referring to external Dietetic Departments.
Supports medical caregivers in following up on post consultation activities such as patients\xe2\x80\x99 evaluation reports.
Maintains accurate records of all patient related information and services provided (assessment, intervention, education and referrals) as per Departmental Standards.
Participates in external events to create awareness of nutrition and health related issues/topics.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor of Science in Dietetics
Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in Health Science with a major in Nutrition
Post-graduate Diploma or Master in Dietetics
Experience
Minimum of 2 years of experience post qualification in the relevant field
Completion of specialty qualification as per the recognized specialty certificate (Health Authority Abu Dhabi guidelines)
Preferred
Experienced in a JCIA facility
Experience and skill in applying the Nutrition Care Process (NCP)
Certification and Licensure
DOH/DHA Medical License
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Preferred
ACLS, PALS relevant to area of specialty
Job Specific Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of dietetics and nutrition related procedures and current best practices
Strong understanding of dietetics and nutrition relevant regulations
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to communicate and relay messages to patients in a culturally sensitive manner
