A Manufacturing leader company in the design and manufacturing of radiators, coolers, and thermal systems for OEM and aftermarket customers, is seeking an experienced Design Manager.
The role involves leading a product design team with a focus on thermal systems and advanced heat management solutions. The successful candidate must have deep technical expertise in thermal calculations and design, ensuring product designs meet customer requirements and operate efficiently under real-world conditions. This role also includes overseeing Research and Development (R&D), product lifecycle management, and compliance with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership and Supervision:
• Lead and mentor a product design team, ensuring a collaborative and innovative work environment.
• Oversee the execution of design projects, providing direction and support to ensure timely delivery of high-quality products.
• Foster an environment that encourages continuous learning, innovation, and problem-solving.
Product Design and Development:
• Lead the thermal design process, ensuring optimal heat transfer and performance for products like radiators, charge air coolers, oil coolers, and HVAC systems.
• Develop detailed thermal models and calculations to predict system performance under various operating conditions.
• Utilize advanced software tools (e.g., CFD simulations, FEA) to analyze and optimize thermal performance, ensuring systems meet both efficiency and durability requirements.
• Ensure all designs adhere to industry standards and customer-specific requirements, including compliance with APQP processes for OEM and aftermarket products.
• Validate product designs through thermal simulations and physical testing, identifying areas for improvement and optimizing heat exchange characteristics.
Thermal Calculation and Analysis Expertise:
• Perform thermal calculations related to heat transfer, fluid flow, and thermodynamic properties to guide the design of high-efficiency thermal systems.
• Analyze heat dissipation and cooling requirements to ensure products maintain optimal operating temperatures across a range of environmental conditions.
• Use thermal modeling to assess steady-state and transient heat transfer, accounting for varying load conditions, materials, and geometries.
• Work closely with the R&D team to prototype and test new designs, ensuring thermal performance is validated before scaling for mass production.
• Identify opportunities to reduce heat loss and improve the energy efficiency of products, considering cost, weight, and material constraints.
Customer Engagement and Communication:
• Engage with customers to fully understand their thermal management needs and ensure designs meet or exceed their expectations.
• Communicate complex thermal design concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring a shared understanding of project goals.
Resource and Personnel Management:
• Allocate resources effectively to ensure the design team meets project deadlines and maintains high productivity.
• Participate in recruitment, training, and performance evaluations, ensuring the team remains up-to-date with the latest thermal design tools and methodologies.
Training and Development:
• Provide specialized training to the design team on advanced thermal calculation techniques, thermal modeling software, and industry best practices.
• Stay abreast of emerging technologies in thermal management, introducing new techniques and tools to improve design accuracy and efficiency.
Problem Solving and Continuous Improvement:
• Lead the resolution of complex thermal design issues, analyzing and troubleshooting product performance problems related to heat transfer, fluid flow, or material failure.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement, regularly reviewing design processes to identify ways to enhance thermal performance and reduce development times.
Workplace Culture and Safety:
• Build a positive, safety-conscious workplace that encourages innovation and collaboration, ensuring team members are working in a supportive and efficient environment.
