The Role Responsibilities: Database Installation and Configuration: Install, configure, and upgrade SQL Server instances across various versions including SQL Server 2005, SQL Server 2012, SQL Server 2016, SQL Server 2017, and SQL Server 2019. Ensure proper configuration settings for optimal performance and security. Database Monitoring and Performance Tuning: Monitor database performance and identify areas for optimization. Implement performance tuning techniques such as index optimization, query optimization, and database configuration changes to improve performance and scalability. Backup and Recovery: Design and implement database backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and availability. Perform regular backups, transaction log backups, and database restores according to established policies and procedures. High Availability and Disaster Recovery: Implement high availability solutions such as SQL Server AlwaysOn Availability Groups, database mirroring, and log shipping to ensure database availability and disaster recovery capabilities. Configure failover clustering for SQL Server instances. Security Management: Implement and maintain database security policies, roles, and permissions to protect sensitive data. Perform regular security audits and vulnerability assessments to identify and mitigate security risks. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Database Maintenance: Perform routine database maintenance tasks such as database integrity checks, index maintenance, and statistics updates. Monitor database growth and space utilization, and proactively manage storage capacity. Database Automation: Automate routine database administration tasks using PowerShell scripts, T-SQL scripts, or third-party automation tools. Develop and maintain automated processes for database provisioning, configuration management, and performance monitoring. Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution: Investigate and troubleshoot database-related issues, including performance problems, connectivity issues, and data corruption issues. Work closely with application developers and system administrators to resolve issues in a timely manner. Patch Management: Plan and execute SQL Server patching and upgrade activities to ensure systems are up to date with the latest security patches and bug fixes. Develop patching schedules and procedures to minimize downtime and service disruption. Documentation and Knowledge Sharing: Document database configurations, procedures, and best practices. Provide guidance and training to junior DBAs and other IT staff on database administration tasks and technologies.Requirements
Experience: 5 years Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. 5 years of experience as a SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA), with hands-on experience managing SQL Server 2005, SQL Server 2012, SQL Server 2016, SQL Server 2017, and SQL Server 2019 environments. Strong understanding of database architecture, design, and administration principles. Proficiency in database performance tuning, query optimization, and troubleshooting. Experience with database backup and recovery strategies, including full backups, differential backups, and transaction log backups. Knowledge of high availability and disaster recovery solutions for SQL Server, such as AlwaysOn Availability Groups, database mirroring, and log shipping. Familiarity with database security concepts and best practices, including role-based access control, encryption, and auditing. Experience with database automation and scripting using PowerShell, T-SQL, or other scripting languages. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex database issues. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
