Dendra Systems is at the forefront of using technology to restore ecosystems and promote biodiversity globally. As a Data Ecology Lead, you will play a crucial role in bridging the gap between ecological science and data-driven solutions.


The Data Ecology Lead will be responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and management of ecological projects, leading a team of ecologists to drive environmental restoration. This role requires ensuring project development adheres to environmental regulations while providing tactical direction to enhance the effectiveness of ecological initiatives.


The ideal candidate will have a strong background in ecological sciences, proven team management experience, and a passion for environmental preservation. This position requires a deep understanding of ecological principles and practices, coupled with strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate complex concepts to diverse audiences. You will have the opportunity to influence project direction and develop strategies that enhance Dendra's capabilities in restoring natural habitats.

Requirements


Team Leadership & Management

• Lead, mentor, and manage a team of ecologists, fostering a positive and collaborative environment.
• Assign tasks, monitor progress, and provide regular feedback to ensure high-quality, timely work.
• Support professional development and continuous learning within the team.

Ecological Data Analysis & Reporting

• Review and analyse ecological data to draw conclusions, identify trends, and provide actionable recommendations.
• Prepare technical reports, presentations, and scientific papers that clearly and rigorously communicate findings.
• Stay current on the latest ecological research, techniques, and regulatory changes.

Stakeholder Communication & Collaboration

• Communicate results effectively to clients, regulatory bodies, and internal stakeholders.
• Work closely with other departments and external organisations to integrate ecological considerations into broader environmental strategies and decision-making.
• Serve as a liaison between ecology, technical, product, and sales teams, as well as senior management.
• Contribute to long-term tactical planning and policy development.

Technical Expertise & Innovation

• Provide technical support and guidance to the team, ensuring adherence to best practices in ecological research and environmental management.
• Introduce innovative methodologies and technologies to improve data collection and project outcomes.

Strategic Alignment & Goal Setting

• Ensure the team understands their role in the overall business strategy and that their quarterly goals are aligned.


Specific Ecological Tasks

• Identification of native and exotic flora and fauna species.
• Identification of geomorphological features via digital site assessment.
• Statistical analysis of species distribution, diversity, and landscape features.
• Identification and mapping of vegetation communities via digital site assessment.
• Assist in research and development of internal products (fauna/flora updates, GIS systems, machine learning).

Technological Integration

• Understanding the use of ecological data for AI model development.
• Recognising the impact of Data Ecology on supporting technological advancements.
• Represent Dendra at government agencies, regulatory bodies and customers.
• Voluntary Support of Field Ecology in executing Field work if required.
• Stay abreast of current ecological research and best practices to inform project strategies.

Experience Requirements


Essential


• Extensive experience in ecology and management
• Strong understanding of ecological principles, regulatory frameworks, and best practices (with focus on mangrove and desert ecosystems)
• Proven project management experience, including budgeting and scheduling
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team and adapt to changing priorities
• Proficiency in data analysis and GIS software
• Ability to identify native and invasive plant species
• Detail-oriented and solution-focused
• Solid working knowledge of Google Docs and computer competency (Windows and MacOS)

Desirable

• Accreditation for vegetation assessments (especially mangrove or desert ecosystems)
• Knowledge of phenological characterisation of flora species, survey inventories and sample collection
• Programming experience (MATLAB, R, Python)
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Arabic
