Job Location:

  • The Curriculum & Assessment Coordinator is a member of the senior leadership team and reports directly to the principal.

Main Purpose
  • To develop, implement, maintain and adapt the schools instructional program so that it meets the needs of all learners.
Responsibilities Key Responsibility 1 - Curriculum Creation
  • Works closely with teachers to advise and guide on the creation of the curriculum framework in line with the schools vision.
  • Provides guidance on the creation of long and medium plans which support the curriculum.
  • Advises HODs as to the ways in which various subjects should be taught in order to enhance learning.
  • Aligns the curriculum with the core standards appropriate for each subject.
  • Ensures the key components of a the curriculum interrelate to ensure there are connections in learning
Key Responsibility 2 - Curriculum Adaptation
  • Ensures the curriculum has a clear rationale, is broad and balanced and exploits cross curricula links and real world problems.
  • Uses data to refine the curriculum to meet learner needs.
  • Ensures the curriculum enables students to develop 21st Century Skills.
  • Ensures, with the Achievement Leader, that students of determination follow a curriculum modified or adapted to meet their needs.
  • Ensures, with the EAL Team that students with EAL needs receive a modified curriculum to meet those needs.
  • Ensures with the Gifted and Talented Coordinator that the curriculum fosters those gifts and talents and promotes excellence.
Key Responsibility 3 - Curriculum Quality and Evaluation
  • Provides constant and ongoing evaluations of the curriculum in action and monitors the extent to which standards are met.
  • Investigates and gathersresources that enable successful curriculum implementation.
  • Ensures that all curricula comply with legislation such as the UAE Frameworks for Inspection and Inclusion.
  • Implements professional development requirements related to the curriculum and its development.
  • Provides challenge in the curriculum to ensure there is no ceiling on achievement and that every child experienced amazing learning.
Key Responsibility 4 - Innovation
  • Ensures that innovation opportunities are woven into the curriculum and are supported by high quality digital learning.
  • Ensures the STEAM program is central to the curriculum and is not an add-on.
  • Works closely with the Careers and College Counsellor to ensure the curriculum includes meaningful professional learning options.
  • Leads on elective selection for high school students.
Key Responsibility 5 - Professional Development
  • Provides ongoing training and CPD for staff during the implementation of new programs or initiatives.
  • Ensures capable teachers receive training in Advanced Placement to challenge student achievement.
  • Leads on standard 4 of the UAE Framework for Inspection.
  • Writes the agreed SEF for this standard.
  • Meets with inspectors to explain the curriculum and its strengths.
  • Evaluated the curriculum formally on an annual basis and reports findings to the SLT.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Has good knowledge of the Common Core standards (NYSS) and New Generation Standards.
  • Is able to study and understand the MoE curriculum for Arabic and Islamic Education and Social Studies.
  • Understands principles and trends regarding the development of curriculum.
  • Has knowledge of various methods of teaching and instruction, especially those most likely to bring about amazing learning.
  • Understands all applicable laws, rules and regulations related to the curriculum.
  • Demonstrates the ability to write curriculum models.
  • Persuasive and able to influence.
  • Is able to research and apply the International Primary Curriculum themes.
  • Has knowledge of formative and summative assessment and research methods.
  • Skilled in researching and evaluating standards in curriculum.
  • Able to solve problems independently and manage projects alone or lead a team.
  • Can use computers and other forms of technology to gather data, communicate and report to other individuals and agencies.
Education and Experience
  • A curriculum coordinator must possess at least a Bachelors degree in education, Masters is preferable.
  • At least five years experience in some form of educational leadership is preferred.
  • US Curriculum understanding.
  • Previous experience of teaching students within a US curriculum context.

  • US Curriculum and Assessment: 2 years (Preferred)
