SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS:The CSSD Technician is responsible for preparing, sterilizing, installing, assembling, or cleaning all laboratory/ healthcare equipment required for surgeries, examinations or medical procedures in the College of Dentistry in line with AU quality and patient safety standards and regulatory requirements. S/he should have a good working knowledge of a variety of sterilization techniques and be able to work with fragile equipment.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensures the implementation of CSSD policies and procedures.
Applies the principles of basic microbiology and infection prevention & control to decrease risk to both patients and staff during routine reprocessing procedures:
Ensures instruments and equipment are cleaned, decontaminated, sterilized, and in good working conditions, according to established guidelines and CSSD policies and procedures.
Selecting and safely using reprocessing products (e.g., detergents, low- and high-level disinfectants).
Disinfects medical devices via Chemical / Thermal.
Sterilizes medical devices via Steam / Low temperature methods (LTGP).
Prepares duty roaster, and assigns tasks and duties to CSSD staff. (for in-charge post).
Develops and coordinates with the relevant supervisors in the orientation of new staff according to the orientation program and CSSD policies and procedures.
Assesses CSSD supply needs and establishes a standard CSSD inventory.
Monitors documents and reports the effectiveness of sterilizers.
Notifies appropriate personnel of malfunction of equipment or lack of supplies.
Comply with all local and infection control policies, standards, and procedures and cooperate with the College of Dentistry management to comply with those requirements.
Demonstrates and monitors activities relating to the operation of washers/disinfectors and other related equipment.
Reports on hazardous incidents, potential losses, and other related issues.
Assists in the preparation of risk assessments and incident reports.
Complies with waste management procedures and policies.
Adheres to the use of appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems.
Promotes and adheres to occupational Health and Safety Policies and Procedures
Improves and maintains the quality of produced work in the CSSD to the highest standard of quality.
Any other assigned responsibilities by the direct line manager.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor\'s Degree/ Diploma in Nursing or Diploma in CSSD (Duration of 2 years) from an approved institute.
At least 3 years experience working in a reputable Hospital in UAE as a Central Sterilization Technician.
MOH License for CSSD Technician.
Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT - CBSPD).
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Expert knowledge of decontamination and sterilization processes.
Good English verbal and written communication skills.
