Job Description

:
  • Performs all functions of Central Supply Sterile Distribution (CSSD).
  • Ensures instruments and equipment are cleaned and decontaminated according to established guidelines policies and procedures.
  • Ensures instrument sets are standardized, sterilized and in good working condition according to the hospital policies and procedures.
  • Wash and decontaminate non sterile instruments and equipment by following the prescribed techniques.
  • Processes and maintains sterile instruments and surgical sets by adhering to adequacy of sets and correct handling techniques.
  • Is meticulous about infection control and safety policies.
  • Follows the appropriate procedures for obtaining and returning or cleaning / disposing of equipment and supplies.
Administrative activities:
  • Develops and coordinates with the Education Department in the orientation of new staff according to the orientation program, hospital policies and procedures.
  • Evaluates CSSD supply needs and establishes a standard Central Supply Sterile Distribution (CSSD) inventory.
  • Monitors, documents and reports effectiveness of sterilizers.
  • Notifies appropriate departments on malfunctions of equipment or lack of supplies.
  • Develops, coordinates and participates in routine educational programs and staff meetings to facilitate professional growth and quality patient care.
  • Collects and distributes items to and from the units in a timely manner and correctly documents any shortage problems.
  • Directs and supervises activities of the Central Supply Sterile Distribution (CSSD) aide/assistant relating to the operation of washer/disinfectors and other related equipment.
  • Establishes and ensures the implementation of Central Supply Sterile Distribution (CSSD) policies and procedures, in keeping with the infection control and environmental health and safety policies of the various regulatory departments.
  • Monitors compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates with the Infection Control Nurse for any activities pertaining to infection and control.

Keeps work area and equipment cleanQualifications:
  • Certification of training from an approved institute of Central Supply Sterile Distribution (CSSD) technicians or Diploma in Nursing.
  • Required 2 years of experience in relevant area in absence of formal course.
  • Current Basic life support (BLS)
  • Currently licensed in country of origin and with HAAD license to practice in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
  • Demonstrates a motivation to work in a health care environment.
  • Ability to review procedures and implement new models of service delivery to satisfy client and organizational requirements.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality outcomes and ability to consult with staff regarding continuous improvement.
  • Excellent command of oral and written English. Arabic language advantageous/desirable but not essential.
  • Possess a can do and flexible approach.
  • Ability to demonstrate highly developed communication and organizational skills at all levels.
  • Ability to provide compassionate care that is respectful to patients\' preferences.
  • Knowledge of computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision and in a team within a complex clinical setting
