Job Overview:
The Contractual Engineer plays a vital role in ensuring compliance with contractual obligations,
managing contract documents, and resolving contractual disputes in an Engineering,
Procurement, and Construction (EPC) project. This position requires meticulous attention to
detail, strong analytical skills, and effective communication with internal and external
stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
• Contract Compliance: Ensure that all project activities adhere to the terms and
conditions outlined in the contracts. Monitor contractor performance to ensure
compliance with contractual requirements.
• Document Management: Manage and maintain project documentation, including
contracts, subcontracts, change orders, and other contractual records. Ensure all
documents are properly filed, tracked, and accessible to relevant stakeholders.
• Change Management: Administer the change management process, including
reviewing, negotiating, and processing change orders, variations, and claims. Assess the
impact of proposed changes on cost, schedule, and scope.
• Dispute Resolution: Assist in resolving contractual disputes and claims in a timely and
cost-effective manner. Liaise with legal counsel, project managers, and other
stakeholders to mitigate risks and resolve conflicts.
• Contract Administration: Provide support in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating
contracts, subcontracts, and other legal documents. Ensure contract terms are clear,
consistent, and legally enforceable.
• Risk Management: Identify potential risks and liabilities associated with contractual
agreements. Develop strategies to mitigate risks and protect the interests of the project
stakeholders.
• Communication: Facilitate effective communication between project teams, clients,
contractors, and subcontractors regarding contractual matters. Provide guidance and
clarification on contractual issues as needed.
• Performance Monitoring: Monitor contractor performance against key performance
indicators (KPIs) and contractual milestones. Identify deviations from the contract terms
and take appropriate corrective actions.
• Reporting: Prepare regular reports on contract status, including progress updates, change
order summaries, and dispute resolution activities. Present findings to project
management and senior leadership as required.
• Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement and
efficiency gains in contract management processes. Implement best practices to enhance
the overall effectiveness of the contract management function.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or related field. Advanced degree or
certification in Contract Management is preferred.
Proven experience in contract administration, preferably in the EPC or construction industry.
Strong knowledge of contract law, commercial terms, and legal principles.
Excellent negotiation, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Proficiency in contract management software and MS Office Suite.
Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Knowledge of project management principles and practices is an asset.
