:2. JOB SUMMARY: 2.1 Anaesthesia consultant is a highly qualified Anaesthesia doctor that, provide and further develop an aesthetic and pain management services for patients in NMCRH-KC in collaboration with colleagues in all disciplines including primary and tertiary care to provide an integrated and high quality service for patients. 2.2 This will include ensuring that all appropriate waiting lists and waiting times are adhered to; that services are provided in an effective and efficient manner and that the principles of risk management and clinical governance are maintained at all times. 2.3 Anaesthesia consultant actively participate in the teaching and training of junior anesthetists and allied healthcare professionals. 2.4 To take part in the general activities of consultants at UHCW - teaching, clinical governance, administration, management and so forth. This will be done by personal development into appropriate roles depending on the consultants\' particular interests and aptitudes. 2.5 To support and develop innovative improvements within the department and the Trust in order to maintain and improve the quality of patient careResponsibilities:3. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 3.1 To take ongoing responsibility for patients under his/her care. 3.2 To provide a consultation service and advisory service to other clinical colleagues in other specialties within the Trust and primary care. 3.3 To participate in the development of the Anaesthesia and critical care treatment protocols and guidelines. 3.4 To develop and maintain collaborative relationships with medical colleagues in other specialties and participate in regular clinical meetings and other postgraduate activities3.5 To take responsibility for the professional supervision and development of trainee doctors within the specialty. This will include appraisal of StRs and completion of Certificates of Satisfaction for Foundation Year doctors. 3.6 To develop and maintain good communications with general practitioners and appropriate external agencies. 3.7 To demonstrate a firm involvement in clinical governance, risk management and clinical audit - this will include the development and maintenance of appropriate systems and practices to ensure continued safe clinical practice 3.8 To ensure that practice is up to date; this will necessitate the consultant taking responsibility for their clinical professional development and participating in the Trust\'s performance and annual review system. 3.9 To share responsibility for data protection arising out of the use of computers, and to maintain good practice in the handling of confidential information. 3.10 To be accountable for improving and complying with infection control practices 3.11 Provides directions and coordinates the activities of the Anesthesia Department to maintain proper professional and administrative level of Patient care. 3.12 Participates in the planning and implementation of the hospital policies. 3.13 Responsible for all functional and technical aspects of anesthesia services provided to maintain high-level of professional and technical work. 3.14 Provides anesthesia with the full range of anesthetic agents, methods and techniques in accordance with accepted professional standards and Medical Organization policies. 3.15 Consults with or advises other Specialist and Consultants on major, complicated cases and with patients or guardians concerning necessary procedures, Anesthetic Agents to be used, and alternative choices. 3.16 Frequent contact with personnel of Surgical Service, Nurses, Physicians and Specialists of other services to exchange information. 3.17 Solve problems with all management levels of Medical services such as the Specialty Chiefs, and the Director of Nursing, other support services. 3.18 Performs all management functions common to the Division, either directly or by delegation to assigned personnel. 3.19 Supervises and monitors the care of all patients requiring anesthesia provided by the Department. 3.20 Participates in recruitment of new Anesthesia personnel. 3.21 Recommends the machines, equipment\'s and supplies needed to carry out the department services.3.22 Coordinates daily work operations, on-calls and vacation schedules of his staff to ensure smooth operation and manpower coverage of his Department at all times. 3.23 Performs professional duties as an anesthesiologist and instructs or advises when necessary the colleagues in case of emergency clinical or administrative situations. 3.24 Keeps informed as to current development in the field of anesthesiology and keeps the staff up to date on procedures through group discussions, lectures, and in-service training. 3.25 Determines which anesthesia and related services procedures are proper to undertake and when new techniques will be utilized. 3.26 Plans and maintains master work schedules necessary for required performance of all Department functions, including leaves of absence, vacations, holiday, weekend schedules, and emergencies. 3.27 Works with Director of Surgical & Diagnostic Services and other Department Heads on related problems in the Department. 3.28 Provides for training of the Department personnel by on-the-job instruction demonstrating personally work necessary to train, and recommending in-service programs or other development activities as required. 3.29 Develops and maintains professional quality and makes recommendations for improvement of such standards from time to time. 3.30 Directs the personnel functions of assigned staff including orientation of new employee, application of company personnel policies in employment, wages, conduct of employees, safety, and other personnel activities. 3.31 Handling grievances, administering warning and disciplinary actions where necessary in conformance with hospital policy. 3.32 Maintains effective communications with assigned personnel, other consultants in the department and with the Director of Surgical & Diagnostic Services. 3.33 Comply with all OSH and infection control policies, standards and procedures and cooperate with hospital management to comply those requirements 3.34 Work accordance with the documented OSH procedures and instructions, specific responsibilities 3.35 Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures 3.36 Notifying OSH Hazards, incidents, Near misses and issues and assistance with the preparation of risk assessments, incident reports 3.37 Comply with Waste management procedures and policies3.38 Attend applicable OSH/Infection control training programs, mock drills and awareness programs 3.39 Use of appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems 4. MANAGEMENT AND ADMINISTRATION: 4.1 Anesthesia consultant expected to ensure efficient use of the resources in the anesthetic and pain management services. 4.2 To provide reports, and contribute to the planning and development services. 5. PERSONAL EDUCATION AND RESEARCH: 5.1 Remain abreast with trends, development, and utilization of the technology in the field of anesthesia and pain management services. 5.2 Attend relevant conferences and seminars and to report back to colleagues. 5.3 Consultant anesthesia should record evidence of his own education and development initiatives; this will form an integral part of the annual performance review. 6. QUALITY ASSURANCE: 6.1 Anesthesia consultant develop, implement, and maintain a quality assurance program for the anesthetic, and pain management development services. 6.2 Assistance will be available from the quality control office as to key component of program. 6.3 Regular review of his performance as a part of the maintenance of the professional standards. 7. TRAINING COURSES REQUIRED: 7.1 Basic cardiac life support. 7.2 Advanced cardiac live support. 7.3 Total quality management. 7.4 Leadership courses.9. QUALIFICATION, LICENSURE, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE: 10.1 Anesthesia consultant must complete a recognized 5-7 year degree in medicine. 10.2 He/ She will also have to do further training which will last between 5 to 8 years. 10.3 MD in Anesthesia, or Fellow of the Royal College of Anesthetists (FRCA) or equivalent degree in Anesthesia. Should have minimum 10 years of experience in Anesthesia post qualification. 10.4 Current license in country of origin with Specialist Anesthesiologist HAAD license to practice in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E.
