The Commis Chef is an entry-level position in the kitchen team. The role involves preparing ingredients, assisting with cooking, and maintaining cleanliness and organization in the kitchen. The Commis Chef supports the smooth operation of the kitchen while gaining knowledge and skills under the guidance of senior chefs.
Key Responsibilities
• Food Preparation:
• Assist in the preparation of ingredients, including chopping, peeling, and portioning.
• Follow recipes and instructions provided by senior chefs.
• Prepare simple dishes or elements of dishes, such as sauces, garnishes, or desserts.
• Cooking Support:
• Assist chefs in the cooking and plating of dishes.
• Monitor stock levels of ingredients and inform the chef of shortages.
• Ensure food is prepared to meet quality and hygiene standards.
• Kitchen Maintenance:
• Maintain cleanliness and organization in workstations and kitchen areas.
• Wash, clean, and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, and work surfaces.
• Adhere to food safety and hygiene regulations.
• Team Collaboration:
• Work effectively with other kitchen staff to ensure efficient workflow.
• Take feedback from senior chefs to improve skills and techniques.
• Contribute to a positive and professional kitchen environment.
• Stock and Inventory:
• Assist in receiving and storing deliveries of ingredients and supplies.
• Ensure proper stock rotation (FIFO: First In, First Out).
• Minimize waste by utilizing ingredients effectively.
