Job Summary:
We are seeking a motivated and skilled Commis 1 to join our kitchen team in a standalone restaurant. The Commis 1 will be responsible for preparing and cooking basic dishes, supporting the senior chefs, and ensuring a smooth kitchen operation. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a high-paced restaurant and be eager to grow and learn within the culinary team.
Key Responsibilities:
• Food Preparation: Assist in the preparation of ingredients (chopping, marinating, etc.) and cooking of basic dishes under the supervision of senior chefs, ensuring consistency and quality.
• Station Support: Support the Chef de Partie in managing the station by preparing mise en place and ensuring that the station is always stocked and organized.
• Cooking: Follow the restaurant's recipes and techniques to prepare appetizers, salads, main courses, and desserts, depending on the assigned station.
• Quality Control: Ensure that all dishes leaving the kitchen are prepared to the restaurant's standards in terms of taste, presentation, and portioning.
• Hygiene and Safety: Maintain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness in your station, adhering to all food safety regulations and kitchen best practices.
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with other kitchen staff, assisting in other sections when required, and maintaining good communication with the team to ensure a smooth kitchen operation.
• Equipment Handling: Properly use and maintain kitchen equipment and tools, reporting any malfunctions or necessary repairs to the Chef de Partie or Sous Chef.
• Learning and Development: Take responsibility for learning new techniques, recipes, and processes as instructed by senior chefs and participate in training to improve culinary skills.
• Stock Management: Assist in inventory checks for your section, ensuring all ingredients are fresh, correctly stored, and available when needed.
• Flexibility: Be ready to work across different sections of the kitchen as required, supporting the team during busy shifts.
Qualifications and Requirements:
• Experience: Previous experience as a Commis 1 or in a similar role in a standalone restaurant is required.
• Basic Culinary Skills: Strong foundation in basic cooking techniques and food preparation methods, with a desire to learn and grow.
• Attention to Detail: A keen eye for quality control in taste, presentation, and portioning.
• Time Management: Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks during busy service periods.
• Team Player: Ability to work well within a team, following instructions and supporting the senior chefs as needed.
