The Clearance Manager for Imports is responsible for overseeing and managing the customs clearance and regulatory compliance processes for all imported food and beverage products. This role ensures timely delivery of goods from international suppliers, while meeting all customs regulations, tariffs, and documentation requirements. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of international trade regulations, customs clearance procedures, and food safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
• Customs Clearance & Compliance:
• Manage and supervise the customs clearance process for all imported food and beverage products.
• Ensure compliance with all international trade laws, regulations, and food safety standards, including local, regional, and international customs rules.
• Oversee the completion and submission of all necessary documentation (e.g., import declarations, invoices, certificates of origin, etc.).
• Coordinate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and other third-party vendors to ensure seamless clearance processes.
• Regulatory Knowledge:
• Stay updated on changes in import regulations, tariff codes, and food safety compliance requirements (e.g., FDA, USDA, etc.).
• Ensure that all food and beverage products meet the relevant standards, including labeling, health certifications, and other specific regulatory requirements for food imports.
• Manage product recalls, if necessary, by working closely with the quality assurance and legal teams.
• Coordination & Logistics Management:
• Work closely with logistics, procurement, and supply chain teams to ensure timely and cost-effective imports.
• Resolve any delays or issues related to customs clearance, inspections, or shipments.
• Collaborate with internal departments to ensure inventory levels align with demand forecasts and import schedules.
• Vendor & Stakeholder Management:
• Liaise with international suppliers, freight forwarders, and customs agents to coordinate shipment schedules and resolve potential issues.
• Maintain strong relationships with regulatory authorities and customs agents.
• Negotiate rates and terms with third-party vendors to optimize costs related to customs and imports.
• Documentation & Reporting:
• Ensure accurate and complete record-keeping of all import-related documentation.
• Prepare reports for senior management regarding the status of imports, clearance timelines, and any customs-related issues.
• Assist in the auditing process by providing necessary records to external auditors when required.
• Problem Solving & Issue Resolution:
• Proactively address any issues related to clearance delays, customs hold-ups, or compliance issues.
• Work with internal teams to resolve discrepancies and ensure swift delivery of goods.
• Team Leadership & Development:
• Lead a team of import and clearance specialists, providing training, guidance, and mentorship.
• Ensure team efficiency and performance, ensuring all KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) and deadlines are met.
Qualifications:
• Education:
• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field. Relevant certifications in international trade or customs clearance would be a plus.
• Experience:
• Minimum of [5-7] years of UAE experience in customs clearance or import management, ideally within the food and beverage industry.
• Proven track record in managing the importation process, from documentation to delivery.
• Strong knowledge of international trade regulations, food safety standards, and import documentation.
• Experience with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and regulatory bodies.
• Skills:
• Excellent understanding of import/export regulations, tariffs, and documentation requirements specific to the food and beverage sector.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work with vendors, regulatory bodies, and internal stakeholders.
• Proficient in MS Office, customs clearance software, and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
