JOB DESCRIPTION:

A

Civil Draftsman

is a specialized professional responsible for creating technical drawings and designs for various civil engineering projects, including buildings, roads, bridges, drainage systems, and more. These drawings serve as a guide for construction and ensure that the projects are executed according to plan.

Key Responsibilities:

Drafting and Preparing Technical Drawings:

Create detailed technical drawings of civil engineering projects, including site plans, structural layouts, and elevation plans. Use CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software, like AutoCAD, to create accurate and professional design documents. Interpret and convert engineers' sketches and concepts into detailed, ready-to-use construction drawings.

Design Layouts and Site Plans:

Design and draft site plans for infrastructure projects such as roads, sewage systems, drainage systems, and utilities. Ensure plans meet local zoning regulations, building codes, and safety standards.

Collaboration with Engineers and Architects:

Work closely with civil engineers and architects to ensure that the drawings align with the project's requirements and specifications. Incorporate feedback from engineers and architects into the revised plans and drawings.

Material and Structural Detailing:

Include detailed specifications for materials, structural components, and construction methods in the drawings. Provide precise measurements and material specifications needed for construction.

Revisions and Modifications:

Update and revise existing plans and drawings based on feedback, changes in scope, or modifications to project specifications. Ensure that all changes are accurately reflected in the final designs.

Compliance and Quality Assurance:

Ensure that all drawings comply with local regulations, building codes, and engineering standards. Maintain high standards of quality and accuracy in all drafted materials.

File Management and Documentation:

Organize and maintain a library of drawings, blueprints, and documents for future reference. Keep records of design revisions and communicate them to the relevant team members.

Coordination with Construction Teams:

Provide drawings and support to construction teams to ensure the correct implementation of designs in the field. Assist in resolving any on-site issues by interpreting the designs and providing clarification.

Required Skills:

Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit, etc.) Strong understanding of civil engineering concepts and construction methods. Attention to detail and accuracy in drawings and documentation. Knowledge of building codes, zoning laws, and safety regulations. Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with engineers, architects, and construction teams. Problem-solving abilities to address challenges during the design and construction phases.
