:Duties and Responsibilities:
Must be able to perform each essential function effectively to be successful in this position:1. Applies casts using a variety of materials, including plaster and synthetic casting materials and high and low temperature plastics, with minimal or no supervision
\xef\x82\xb7 Applies appropriate cast/splint per physician order using appropriate casting/splint material with body in appropriate position.
\xef\x82\xb7 Shapes cast to ensure maximum comfort and minimum unnecessary pressures.
\xef\x82\xb7 Trims and remodels cast to ensure comfort and fit with cast knife, cast cutter, and cast spreader to remove parts of cast and to enlarge cast to decrease pressure in swollen area.
\xef\x82\xb7 Performs appropriate documentation and patient education related to cast or splinting and as directed by Physician or Registered Nurse.
\xef\x82\xb7 Performs casting for diabetic ulcers.2. Assists in Outpatient Clinic, Operating Theatre, Inpatient Units and Emergency room
\xef\x82\xb7 Assists physician with application of cast when necessary.
\xef\x82\xb7 Applies prescribed cast to patient according to physician order.
\xef\x82\xb7 Provides cast modification as needed.
\xef\x82\xb7 Instructs patient regarding cast care.3. Maintains supplies, tools and equipment
\xef\x82\xb7 Cleans procedure tables, work areas and tools according to schedules. Cleans general equipment according to guidelines
\xef\x82\xb7 Stocks the procedure rooms according to schedules and as needed.
\xef\x82\xb7 Reports non-functioning or defective equipment to supervisor and submits repair request.
\xef\x82\xb7 Maintain inventory of all relevant cast materials.4. Performs team member responsibilities
\xef\x82\xb7 Communicates effectively with patients/families and the hospital team in a manner that promotes positive working relationships.
