Job Description

The Billing Officer will be responsible for managing the billing process within the finance department of the medical center. This role ensures accurate, timely, and efficient processing of patient invoices, insurance claims, and payment collections. The Billing Officer will also work closely with medical staff, patients, insurance companies, and other departments to resolve billing issues and discrepancies.

Generate and review patient bills for services rendered, including consultations, treatments, and medical procedures. Ensure billing accuracy and completeness, including appropriate coding and categorization of services. Maintain and update billing records and patient accounts in the system. Prepare and submit claims to insurance companies and follow up on claim status. Work closely with insurance companies to resolve any issues related to claims, reimbursements, or payment delays. Ensure compliance with insurance company guidelines and protocols. Track and manage payments from patients and insurance providers. Contact patients or insurance companies regarding outstanding balances or payment issues. Process payments and ensure accurate posting of transactions. Investigate and resolve billing discrepancies, disputes, or issues with patients or insurance providers. Coordinate with medical and administrative staff to clarify any issues related to patient care and services provided. Prepare and maintain accurate financial reports related to billing and collections. Ensure proper documentation and filing of billing records in compliance with legal, regulatory, and organizational standards. Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for the finance department. Ensure that all billing practices are in compliance with local regulations, medical billing standards, and hospital policies. Stay up to date with any changes in medical billing codes, regulations, or insurance policies.

A bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, or a related field is preferred. Additional certifications in medical billing or healthcare finance will be an advantage. Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in billing or finance, preferably in a healthcare or medical center environment. Knowledge of medical coding systems (e.g., ICD-10, CPT) is an asset. Experience working with insurance claims and reimbursements is highly desirable. Strong knowledge of accounting principles and billing procedures. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Proficiency in accounting software and billing systems (experience with healthcare-specific billing software preferred). Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively deal with patients, insurance companies, and internal teams. * Problem-solving skills and the ability to handle discrepancies or complaints professionally.
