Job Summary
  • Responsible for day to day operations of HSE department, implementing safety requirements across the business unit and ensuring zero accident level in operational processes
  • Responsible for building a culture of Health, Safety, Environmental and Sustainabilty Consciousness at the business unit and ensure continous deveolpment in the units HSE culture
Roles & Responsibilities1. Strategic:
  • Advise the Operations Head on all new safety regulations and provide expert advice and support to the management with regards to management of workplace hazards and risks
  • Design Annual Sustainability plan and objectives
  • Implement Sustainability initiatives within the BU and train employees on sustainability practices
2. Operational:
  • Handle the safety operations at the business unit, monitor the BU HSE performance, report the same to the Head Operations and take corrective actions if needed
  • Identify unsafe working conditions and build a safe working environment through modifications in civil, mechanical, electrical and process workflows
  • Eliminate any risks due to HSE violations. Assess HSE risks and undertake corrective action / precautionary measures to minimize potential risks
  • Prepare Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and User Manuals for factory employees, for all plausible disasters such as fire, earthquake, floods and other site-specific causes of incidents
  • Develop risk registers, review them on an annual basis and ensure compliance to defined the safety norms
  • Perform monthly checks on effectiveness of fire systems, identify fire hazards and consequential risks, advice on measures to minimize fire risks and develop robust fire handling procedures
  • Implement campaigns to maintain employee awareness to requisite standards in managing risks and emergency actions
  • Liaise with the Operations Head to ensure adherence to statutory safety requirements by all workers & contract labour
  • Analyse pollution control at the sites including air emissions, water pollution, solid/ gaseous/ liquid waste disposal and highlight red-flags to relevant stakeholders
  • Liaise with external party HSE auditors and certification bodies, conduct HSE internal audit, perform inspections at periodic intervals and take corrective actions
  • Drive the maintenance of HSEMS (HSE Management System), inspect documents, certifications and other related documentation; Ensure timely submission of all documents to the concerned authorities/departments
  • Ensure all employees are using the recommended Personal Protective Equipment ( PPEs) while conducting regular work in the factories and surrounding areas
  • Participate in monthly meetings when required to report on relevant health & safety matters and provide reports on safety incidents on a regular basis
  • Prepare an incidents dashboard, including site safety index, update relevant databases and share with all critical stakeholders, highlighting key issues
  • Investigate critical incidents at the sites and analyse root cause, to develop action plan for prevention of incidents in the future, across all factories
  • Review and analyse accident investigation reports and perform monthly inspection on effectiveness of machine guards and fire system
  • Develop emergency evacuation plans and have the same displayed at key locations
  • Ensure safe driving and vehicle movement practices within the port and on the road
  • Design and implement safe environmental practices to control air, water and land pollution
  • In close coordination with Head Corporate Technical Services - HSE, review all HSE policies, procedures and other relevant documents
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable legislations pertaining to environment, health & safety across the business units
  • Maintain working relationships with local authorities including Police, medical & government agencies
  • Conduct periodic training on hygiene, safety and environmental standards across the factory
KPIs
  • Decrease in the number of safety incidents
  • % reduction in penalties due to HSE violations
  • Gap reduction between last year\'s Lost Time Injury numbers and zero, with the target of zero injuries
  • Financial loss due to Safety of equipment or manpower
  • % non-compliance to annual inspection plans
  • Declining trend in closing time of hazards identifies during random and regular inspections
  • Number of initiatives completed for ensuring HSE compliance & awareness within specified timelines
  • Adherence to budget
  • % adherence to departmental KPIs and SLAs
  • Performance appraisal sessions held according to policies.
  • Performance objectives set and achieved.
  • Feedback received from employees.
Work experience requirement5+ years of industrial safety experience preferably in the large food manufacturing unitQualification
  • A bachelor\'s degree or higher in Safety, Engineering or a related technical field
  • NEBOSH International General certificate in occupational health and safety
  • OSHAS 18001 and ISO 14001 lead auditors course
