About the department

The School of Engineering is seeking applications from experienced academics at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, in the field of Mechatronic Engineering.



The School of Engineering in Dubai started in 2012 and offers the undergraduate engineering majors of Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer and Autonomous Systems Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and recently introduced the Mechatronic Engineering major. The School has at PG level the highly successful Masters in Engineering Management. The School has nine brand new laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment and IT facilities.


The school operates as one unit with Discipline heads in Mechanical, Civil and Electrical Engineering leading the UG Programs. The Year 1 is common to all engineering students, and a number of higher-level subjects are shared. As such there is a high level of collaboration both in teaching and in research, Mechatronic Engineering sits within the Mechanical Engineering discipline but nearly half of the courses are from the Electrical discipline.


All staff in Engineering are research active and collaborate with international universities, particularly with the main campus in Australia. UOW Engineering is in the top 100 in subject rankings. The mechatronic engineering course was recently launched and it is expected that the candidate will strengthen the programme through both their research and teaching.




Requirements & Responsibilities

In teaching, the candidate is expected to contribute primarily to the teaching of subjects in the Mechatronic Engineering Major, bringing innovation to the major and also ensuring courses are in line with industry trends. All staff will be required to supervise capstone projects and thesis projects. Staff in Engineering are also expected to contribute to the delivery of common foundational subjects.


In leadership, and as part of the dynamic team of the School of Engineering, the successful candidate is expected to play an important role in the engagement with industry on collaborative projects, the supervision of students' capstone projects and contributions to reviews and continuous improvement of the discipline. The Candidate is expected to be actively involved in outreach activities that build awareness of the major in the community.



As a Faculty member, you will have an excellent research track record and will be required to demonstrate research leadership from the outset. You will be expected to raise the profile of the Faculty through external networking, industry linkages, and producing high impact, high profile publications. In addition, you will be expected to seek and obtain research and industry funding to develop/expand your role within the university.


Qualifications & Experience

• PhD. Degree in Mechatronic/Robotics/Computer Engineering or a closely related discipline from a reputed and recognised international institution.
• An accredited Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
• Well-established teaching experience in the field of Mechatronic Engineering.
• Experience in supervising of students' capstone projects and research.
• Active research record in the field Mechatronic/Robotics Engineering or closely related field with relevant research output in recognised international journals as well as evidence of research leadership and collaboration.
• Fluency in English language (both spoken and written)
