Assistant Resident Engineer (ARE)
Job Summary:
The Assistant Resident Engineer (ARE) assists the Resident Engineer in overseeing the day-to-day operations of construction projects to ensure they are executed in accordance with project specifications, standards, and safety requirements. The ARE works closely with contractors, engineers, architects, and other stakeholders to facilitate smooth project execution and timely completion.
Key Responsibilities:
• Project Oversight:
• Assist the Resident Engineer in supervising construction activities on-site, ensuring they meet the project's scope, schedule, and quality requirements.
• Monitor contractor work progress and report any deviations or issues to the Resident Engineer.
• Participate in site inspections /meetings and ensure that construction complies with design drawings, specifications, and relevant standards.
• Quality Control:
• Review and ensure compliance with project documents, including construction drawings, specifications, and safety regulations.
• Assist in maintaining high standards of construction quality by monitoring workmanship and materials.
• Provide guidance to contractors on best practices, identifying and addressing deficiencies when necessary.
• Coordination:
• Facilitate communication between the project team, contractors, and stakeholders to resolve any technical issues that arise.
• Coordinate with the Resident Engineer and other project engineers to ensure effective implementation of work plans.
• Assist in organizing and attending progress meetings with contractors, clients, and consultants.
• Documentation and Reporting:
• Assist in preparing daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports for the Resident Engineer.
• Maintain accurate site records, including inspection logs, photographs, and quality assurance documents.
• Ensure that all project documentation is up to date and properly filed for easy reference.
• Health & Safety:
• Monitor site activities to ensure they adhere to the safety plan and local health and safety regulations.
• Promote a culture of safety on-site by addressing unsafe practices and ensuring all workers are following safety protocols.
• Problem Solving:
• Assist in identifying potential risks, delays, or challenges during construction and propose mitigation measures to the Resident Engineer.
• Resolve construction issues and escalate significant problems to the Resident Engineer for prompt resolution.
• Technical Assistance:
• Provide technical support to the construction team, including reviewing engineering drawings and resolving technical queries.
• Assist in value engineering and review change orders or variations to ensure project efficiency.
Qualifications:
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field.
• Experience: 10 years of relevant experience in construction supervision or civil engineering projects in the Gulf.
• Technical Skills:
• Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and standards.
• Proficiency in construction management software and tools (e.g., AutoCAD, MS Project, Primavera).
• Understanding of project management principles and health & safety regulations.
• Soft Skills:
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage time effectively and work under pressure.
Work Conditions:
• Primarily works on construction sites.
• This involves working long hours, including weekends and public holidays, depending on the project's needs.
