Job Title: Animal Caretaker

OVERVIEW:

The Animal Caretaker will be responsible for the daily care and welfare of research animals. This role requires attention to detail and compliance with facility protocols to maintain a safe and ethical environment. The position will be based in Abu Dhabi working in a Governmental Animal Research facility under the supervision of Cytomed Middle East.

RESPONSIBILITIES :
Basic understanding of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for handling, feeding, and maintaining animal housing.

Knowledge of cleaning and disinfection protocols and the ability to implement environmental enrichment practices.

Willingness to undergo ongoing training in line with international animal welfare standards.

Ability to recognize signs of distress, illness, or abnormal behavior and report them to the veterinary team.

Safely handle rodents (mice, rats) in a research or laboratory environment, following best practices for animal welfare.

Familiarity with NRC 2011 and ETS 123 guidelines, particularly in maintaining a safe and clean environment for animals.

QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent with formal qualifications in animal care.

. Previous experience in a vivarium or laboratory animal facility is preferred.

SKILLS:
Physical capability to lift and manage animal cages and work in controlled laboratory conditions.

Knowledge of animal behavior and care best practices.

Proficiency in English for clear communication with veterinary staff and researchers; Arabic is optional but preferred.
