Job Summary:

The Agronomist at Greeneration will oversee all aspects of crop production, focusing on edible flowers, leaves, microgreens, and rare crops. This role is pivotal in ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality produce through innovation, sustainability, and efficiency in our vertical farming operations.

Responsibilities:

Crop Management and Production:

• Develop and implement advanced cultivation techniques tailored to vertical farming, with a focus on edible flowers and specialty crops.
• Monitor plant health, soil conditions, and pest control measures, ensuring optimal growth conditions.
• Manage irrigation systems and nutrient delivery to maintain high yield and quality.
• Implement integrated pest management strategies to minimise crop loss and environmental impact.

Research and Development:

• Conduct experiments to improve crop varieties and develop new products that meet client specifications.
• Stay updated with the latest advancements in vertical farming, sustainable agriculture, and relevant technologies.
• Collaborate with the R&D team to integrate innovative farming techniques and new crop species into production.

Quality Control:

• Establish and maintain strict quality standards for all produce.
• Perform regular inspections and quality assessments to ensure compliance with local and international standards.
• Implement corrective actions promptly to maintain high standards.

Sustainability and Environmental Management:

• Promote and implement sustainable farming practices to reduce environmental impact.
• Utilise organic and eco-friendly products wherever feasible.
• Manage waste and recycling processes to enhance sustainability.

Data Management and Reporting:

• Maintain accurate records of crop performance, health, and yields.
• Analyse data to inform decision-making and improve farming practices.
• Prepare detailed reports for the Head of Operations and other stakeholders.

Team Management and Training:

• Train and supervise farming staff, ensuring adherence to best practices.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the team.
• Collaborate with other departments to align farming operations with company goals.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Science, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role, preferably within a vertical farming or high-tech agriculture setting.
• Proven experience in growing edible flowers, vine crops and specialty crops.
• Experience in mushroom cultivation is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of plant physiology, crop management, and sustainable farming practices.
• Strong knowledge of HACCP and FSMS.
• Strong knowledge of different key factors of growing and harvesting.
• Proficiency in using agricultural technology and data analysis tools.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with vertical farming systems and hydroponics.
• Familiarity with the specific requirements of edible flowers, microgreens, and rare crops.
• Knowledge of local & international agricultural regulations and Food safety practices.
• Ability to innovate and adapt to new farming techniques and technologies.
• Plan for the Agronomist (aligned with GM's strategic plan)
