We are looking for a dedicated and skilled Construction Accountant to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of financial operations for the company, including accounting, billing, bookkeeping, payroll, tax filings, and financial reporting. As a key member of the team, you will ensure that all financial transactions, including purchases, sales, overtime calculations, and accounts, are recorded accurately, and that our financial practices comply with relevant regulations.
In addition to general accounting functions, this position will involve handling unique aspects of construction financials such as project-based budgeting, cost tracking, and reporting for ongoing and completed construction projects. You will work closely with project managers, vendors, and clients to ensure that all financial aspects are aligned with project goals.
Key Responsibilities:
• Full-cycle Accounting: Oversee and manage the complete accounting process, including general ledger management, journal entries, month-end and year-end closing, and preparation of financial statements (balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements).
• Accounts Payable & Receivable: Process and track all incoming and outgoing payments, including managing vendor invoices, client payments, and follow-ups. Ensure timely payment to vendors and accurate billing to clients.
• Billing & Invoicing: Handle the preparation and issuance of invoices to clients for completed construction work, ensuring compliance with project contracts. Ensure that all billable items, including materials and labor costs, are captured and invoiced correctly.
• Payroll Processing: Administer payroll for all employees, including regular wages, overtime, and benefits. Ensure accurate calculations of overtime hours for field employees and subcontractors, and manage statutory deductions (e.g., taxes, social security, and other benefits).
• Overtime Tracking & Reporting: Ensure that overtime hours are accurately tracked and properly accounted for in payroll, in accordance with labor laws and company policies.
• Bookkeeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records using Tally (or other accounting software), including recording day-to-day transactions such as purchases, sales, expenses, receipts, and payments.
• Project-based Accounting & Budgeting: Work closely with project managers to track costs associated with individual construction projects. This includes overseeing project budgets, costs of materials and labor, and ensuring that each project stays within its financial scope.
• Cost Control & Reporting: Monitor and analyze construction project costs (material, labor, subcontractor expenses) and report variances. Provide insight into cost control measures to improve profitability.
• Tax Filing & Compliance: Ensure timely and accurate tax filings, including GST, TDS, and other statutory tax requirements. Work with external auditors and tax professionals during audits and tax preparation.
• Bank Reconciliations: Reconcile company bank accounts regularly to ensure accuracy of cash flow records and that there are no discrepancies between company books and bank statements.
• Financial Reporting & Forecasting: Prepare financial reports for senior management, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow projections. Assist in financial forecasting for upcoming projects and company growth.
• Vendor and Subcontractor Payments: Manage relationships with vendors and subcontractors, ensuring all financial obligations are met in a timely manner. Process payments, track invoices, and handle any discrepancies.
• Internal Controls & Financial Policies: Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with accounting standards. Develop and enforce financial policies and procedures that align with construction industry practices.
• Cost Analysis & Profitability Analysis: Conduct detailed analysis on project profitability, including comparing estimated costs with actual costs. Provide reports on the financial health of ongoing projects and advise management on financial decisions.
• Documentation & Record-Keeping: Maintain comprehensive and organized financial records for audit purposes, tax filing, and project analysis. Ensure all financial documentation is properly filed and easy to access.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Proven experience (6+ years) as an Accountant, preferably in the construction industry.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial management.
• Proficiency in accounting software, especially Tally , or similar platforms.
• Experience with payroll processing, tax filing, and compliance in the construction sector.
• Knowledge of construction industry accounting practices, including project-based accounting and cost management.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to maintain accuracy under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and coordinate with project managers, clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
• Familiarity with relevant regulations (GST, TDS, and labor laws) in the construction industry.
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
Preferred Skills:
• Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Familiarity with construction management software and ERP systems.
• Certification (e.g., CA, CMA, or similar) is a plus.
