Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accountant to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, with specific experience in real estate accounting, property management, and financial reporting. The Accountant will be responsible for managing financial transactions, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with all relevant accounting standards and regulations within the real estate sector.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting:

Prepare and maintain monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and cash flow statements for real estate properties. Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records in compliance with real estate accounting standards and regulations.

Property Management Accounting:

Manage property-specific financial transactions, including rent payments, tenant billing, and accounts receivable. Track and report on property operating expenses, including maintenance, insurance, utilities, and property taxes. Assist with budgeting and forecasting for individual properties and real estate portfolios.

Lease Administration:

Review, monitor, and reconcile lease agreements and payment schedules. Ensure proper accounting for tenant deposits, prepaid rent, and lease liabilities.

Real Estate Transactions:

Support accounting functions related to real estate transactions, including acquisitions, sales, and refinancing. Assist with due diligence processes and preparation of financial information for property acquisitions or dispositions.

Tax Compliance:

Prepare and file tax returns related to real estate properties, including property tax, sales tax, and income tax. Ensure tax filings are in compliance with local, state, and federal tax laws and regulations.

Bank Reconciliation & Cash Management:

Reconcile bank accounts and credit card statements on a regular basis. Manage cash flow for real estate operations, including processing and monitoring payments and receipts.

Financial Analysis:

Analyze financial performance and provide insights on the profitability of properties or portfolios. Assist with real estate portfolio management, financial modeling, and investment analysis.

Audit and Compliance:

Assist in the preparation for internal and external audits. Ensure compliance with all accounting principles (GAAP), company policies, and industry regulations specific to real estate accounting.

Collaboration and Reporting:

Collaborate with property managers, leasing agents, and other team members to gather necessary financial data. Prepare financial reports for senior management, stakeholders, and investors as required.

Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

Experience:

Minimum of 3-5 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in real estate accounting or property management. Experience with real estate investment, property management, or real estate transactions is preferred.

Certifications:

CPA or other relevant certifications are a plus.

Skills:

Strong knowledge of real estate accounting principles and practices. Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Yardi, MRI, or similar real estate accounting systems). Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and financial modeling). Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
