Established in 2010, the Fatima bint Mohamed bin Zayed Initiative (FBMI) is an innovative social enterprise that harnesses the traditional skills of the Afghan people to produce beautiful hand-knotted carpets, embroidered furniture, and local handicraft at fair market wages. FBMI also invests locally in healthcare, education, numerous social and economic reforms, and provides strategic advisory, in a variety of sectors, to international NGOs and governments.
To date, FBMI has employed over 4,000 low-income Afghans and advised institutions including WHO, UNICEF, IOM, USAID, The U.A.E., and Afghan governments – amongst many others.
